Tori,” Andrew began with an irate tone as he entered the Inn in Avalon off campus, “things with the estate are going to be fine, you’re stressing over nothing, sister.” He was speaking to her through this muggle device from America, an iPhone. It felt ridiculous, but his father had been pushing him to adapt to some more modern appliances so that they may broaden their clientele. With the death of his father’s mother’s brother, Grand Uncle Piotr, that had kept him busy Andrew was exhausted enough to bend to his father’s wishes for the months after the discovery of Grand Uncle Piotr’s illness leading to his death.

Please, Tor, focus on your studies again. School begins later for you, this is fine, but you have work to finish, no?” His sister quickly bent to his wishes, begrudgingly he noted. He winced as he hung up after she gave her love. Viktoria was finally entering those rebellious teen years.

The past months had not been the greatest for Andrew. He had turned himself completely to his studies, focusing his attentions purely on studies and none of the other visceral pleasures of life. He only had the occasional drink at a family party. He had been spending a large amount of time with his family; it almost felt inhumane. However, Tori had been struggling with some bullies at school and heathen teenage boys hounding at her and therefore, Andrew saw it fit to make a personal visit at her school. She enjoyed it immensely, but then Grand Uncle Piotr got sick and he had to extend his stay. Once he passed mid-August, they were taxed with the responsibility of splitting up the shared estates and money. It was exhausting to say the least.

Summer was ending and he'd made no new friends to spend the hazy, golden days of a sweet heat with. It was frustrating, but he rubbed his temples and sucked it up. Now he was back in England, in familiar territory. As his eyes slid over to the well-formed waitress across the inn, he stuffed his hands in his pocket and waited to see if she'd notice him.

If she did, there was a small smile and a nod awaiting her while he patiently waited to be seated, his muggle phone pocketed. She was quite gorgeous as far as he could tell, just off the bat. Full-formed, nice figure, meant she worked out, which was nice to know. He gave her a small wave for measure, hoping that her personality was just as entrancing as her physical form was proving to be. It was her choice whether to acknowledge him or not; either way he respected her decision. Should she chose to not, he'd accept it gratefully and eat in peace; should she chose to acknowledge him, there would be nothing but fun in store for the two of them.

It was really closing in on the time when school started again, and the inn had been getting busier every week with customers returning from their wonderful holidays, something Ariel found absolutely thrilling. They would tell her all these amazing stories, and some not so amazing, about how the Caribbean was like at this time of year, how perfect the temperature had been in the Maldives, and all kinds of things. Which did make Ariel a tiny bit jealous of people's adventures, but it was all in good sports. After all, they did help her loads with her own mood and the work and all that. She absolutely loved the customers and she'd brighten up the minute someone walked in the door, even if there were the absolute annoying people who just didn't know when to shut up or to smile and talk.

But today wasn't a busy day. Today was slow and painful. She'd only been working for a couple of hours, maybe not even that, and no one had come inside yet. So when the door opened, Ariel practically spun around with her widest grin yet. Which turned out to be extremely hard to hold when she realized who it was. One of their regulars. One of the people who just did not know when to smile and who would always stare. But she kept the smile despite this, and made sure that her haircolour didn't fade to a dull brown, like it often did when she was bored. She quickly showed him to a table, and he talked quickly about what he wanted. Always the same. Always so boring. Ariel grinned. "All right, it'll come ASAP!" she chimed and turned to the bar and leaned over to the hatch that lead to the kitchen, giving the order to the cook, who raised an eyebrow; she knew exactly who'd walked into the inn as well. She sighed. "Regulars," she said. Ariel chuckled. "Hear, hear."

And then the door opened again. Ariel tried to not be too happy about who might walk into the room. After all, they had more than one (somewhat) annoying customer. Actually, the regular who was already inside was kind of sweet sometimes, but Ariel just didn't know where she had him. Ever. But then her eyes landed on a guy she could not place. She didn't think she'd seen him around, but it was possible. He gave her a nod and a smile, and even a wave, and Ariel quickly beamed at him: he seemed nice enough. And then she noticed him all over again. He was pretty damned ... was gorgeous going to far? Nah, he was pretty damned gorgeous. Ah, how the scales outbalance each other! She walked round the counter and towards him with a sweet smile.

"Hello, dear customer, and welcome to the Round Table," she said in an overdramatic tone. "How may I help you today?" she asked. She held her face for a second and then giggled. "Nah, sorry, but welcome! As you can see, everything is vacant but one table! Feel free to sit wherever," she said, gesturing to the tables, waiting to see where he would want to sit.

    Quirky.

Andrew didn't meet too many people who were defined by that characteristic. In fact, more often than not he met dull, boring people. There was probably some sort of correlation to that, and the fact that he had no problem abandoning people when he got bored. He was a fickle person in terms of friendships and relationships. So far the only people he really had an interest in keeping contact with was Andrienne Kang, because by the Gods was she an interesting person! He could place a guarantee that he would never meet another Andrienne Kang anytime soon. There were a few others he could name, Eris Adler was definitely on it; a constant reminder of who was, and who he could never escape being.

He ran a hand through his hair and tried to think of any quirky people he met really. Joshua Verano was a quirky guy; cute, fun to be around, adventurous, engaged and therefore, off the market. He was sure with enough elbow grease he could persuade Joshua to jump back into bed with him, but he knew better than to just use people like that (well now he knew better).

He was shocked to say the least by the overdramatic tone the beautiful waitress took on. He expected her to be more regal or annoyed. Working with customers was probably a pain in the ass; Andrew had yet to experience that kind of worked, and secretly hoped he would never have to.

"Well, dearest waitress," he put a joking tone on the name, "if there's but one table vacant, then I've not really much choice but to take it, do I?" He grinned widely. "Are all the waiters and waitresses like you; fascinating and terribly attractive?" He asked, there was a tease in his tone, but he tried to make it as seriously as he could.

Ariel let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding; she knew how sometimes the customers were to timid and stoic they couldn’t even see kindness when it hit them in the face. But this guy took her exaggeratedness in good sports and even joked right back. Thank Merlin. She didn’t think she could’ve taken it if he was another dumb asshole who didn’t know where his asshole was. She chuckled at his tone and gave a nod. «Very good sir, just checking to see if you were observant enough,» she said chuckling. At his question, Ariel let out a laugh. «Ah, you sure know how to flatter someone! Maybe I have to tip you now,» she joked, before waving him with her, snatching up a menu. «That’d be just the one, right?» she quickly asked, gesturing with the menu to show him what she meant.

She stopped in front of a table by the window that had a pretty decent view of the street outside and gestured to one of the chairs. «Here you go, have a look on the menu,» she said and placed it in front of him. Ariel was beginning to feel that this was going to be a good day. She quickly threw a look over to her regular and saw that he still seemed all right, and looked to the food counter to see if his food was ready yet. It wasn’t. «Is there anything you want to know? Do you want something to drink while you decide what to eat?» she asked, «Or are you even eating?» She was grinning at him, but she was also watching him carefully, to make sure she wasn’t overstepping any bounds. She knew that even the happiest of people could feel rather uncomfortable when it came to the services of their waiter/waitress. And Ariel knew the signs.
