Aaron found that he was becoming more tired playing mind games with men and women, chasing them, playing around, and trying for something that was clearly going no where. He knew that being in his late twenties called for more responsibility, called for him to be more than what he normally was in a relationship. He couldn't help himself some days, couldn't help the desire to chase another pretty face. He ran a hand through his gel-lax hair, a day full of running his pub and running about to research and find the newest trends in restaurants to keep the good flow of patrons continuous. He hadn't even realized it but his birthday was approaching within weeks. He knew he'd see Desiree and Amara, his sweet sisters, but anyone else? He couldn't recall. There was no one significant in his life and it was, well, rather alarming. Not even a mate to drink with at the end of the day. He bit his lower lip and shook the memory out of his head.

Flourish and the Blotts was a brilliant place for him to get the new recipes he needed for the soups, the dishes, and other magical decorations for the winter season were necessary. As he maneuvered around the book stacks, he stopped himself short at the brunette standing in the aisle closest to him. She was, well, nothing short of beautiful. So he tried his hardest to think of a good greeting, but decided on introducing himself rather than a cheesy line or something more him.

"Hello," he greeted, biting his lower lip and offering her his hand, "I'm Aaron Ward." He paused trying to find a reason to strike conversation. "Any book recommendations?" He tried lamely, smiling to help, sticking his hands in the pockets of his grey slacks.

PostSubject: Re: Something New (Amerix)    Something New (Amerix) EmptyWed Jan 07, 2015 12:41 am

Amerix was getting restless and bored. She had grown tired of staying in the dorm and studying. Perhaps it was time to go out, get some fresh air and meet new people. So far, her endeavor to make new friends was only partially successful. She did not consider them friends yet but rather acquaintances. In her dictionary, the word friend held a sacred meaning. It meant trust, it meant loyalty, it meant standing beside each other through thick and thin. Amerix knew she couldn't go through four years of university without making at least one close friend. She couldn't remain anonymous forever and having friends always helped and encouraged her.

Feeling a little homesick, she decided to explore Diagon Alley. She heard there was a good bookshop there and perhaps delving into someone else's world would get her mind off her own. She donned a thick sweater, jeans and boots. Looking at herself in the mirror, she decided to do her hair up. Creating a center part, she started a lace braid on both sides to meet at the back and left the dorm.

Heading towards Diagon Alley, she passed a bank and a pub, spotting a sign that said Flourish and Blott's. This must be it she thought. Pushing the door open, she entered the bookshop and breathed in the scent of books. There was no other smell she loved. Walking leisurely, she browsed through the various aisles and the books they held, looking for something that could take her mind on a journey far away from the real world. She was contemplating one interesting book when a male voice broke through her thoughts.

Looking up, she saw that a man had greeted introduced himself. He wasn't all that bad looking with gelled up hair and a defined jaw line. Amerix wasn't proud of what she did next but she had a reason for doing it. The first thing she did, before even answering him, was look around to see there was anybody else in the bookshop. She hated being alone with a man. Having a guy force himself on her once was one too many times.

Stupid girl! This is a public place! What do you think he can do to you here? You better start with apologising for taking so long to answer.

"Hi, Aaron. I'm sorry, I was thinking about something else," she said, offering a small smile as she took his hand.

He looks cute biting his lip. Shocked at her own thoughts, she proceeded to answer his question.

"Well, it depends on what you're looking for. This is actually my first time in this bookshop but I always recommend fiction. They're my favourite genre."

She glanced back down at the book in her hands. For a girl who wanted friends, her social skills were horrible. She had no ability to continue a conversation once it started and that always terrified her. Thinking about social skills and conversations, she realised she had totally forgotten to introduce herself.

"Oh, I'm Amerix, by the way. I'm a first year Auror-in-training at Merlin's Academy," she said bashfully, blushing as she looked away, twirling the book she was holding around and around.

Aaron didn't believe in love at first site. As a pansexual man in his late twenties, life taught him to be less naive. Although he was pansexual, he knew of his charms and his looks, and he relied on those more than his actual - well, ability. However, with such advantages, life also taught him to be courteous of other people. If this woman, this lovely woman that was making his heart jump, was interested in him she would have made it just as apparent. So he decided that it would be wrong for him to hard press her, coerce her into a date, but he'd have to be more subtle. Aaron knew just what was attracting him to her.

Her eyes were most mesmerizing pair of eyes he'd ever seen.

He had seen grey-blue eyes, blue-green eyes, and even melds of both. He had seen eyes that were black as night but screamed emotions, he had seen brown eyes the color of mahogany; he'd seen a plethora of eyes. Eyes were the window to the soul and the color of her eyes could have only been described as the world's most enticing pair. There were shades of whiskey, of caramel, of things in the world he loved. He swallowed hard when she made eye contact with his, and that's when he decided he needed to do something he'd never done before.

    He would settle.

When his eyes scanned over her, he quick as a flash of light took in the facts. She was shy, smart, and because of these two factors probably a hard working intelligent- student maybe? Probably, the youth in her face but not in her eyes said she was a college student. She could have very well been a Seventh Year from Hogwarts, but in Diagon Alley? Not likely. So a college student then he decided. He drew in the assumptions about her with ease, proud of himself just a little.

When their hands touched, he felt his heart jump to his throat reaffirming his 'settling' notion. It was foreign to him, and when he said settle he definitely didn't mean for it to be interpreted as 'forever' that was foolish and a reminder of the whole "love at first sight notion" (which he'd dismissed). When he decided to settle on her, he meant it in the way that he would not push for anything more than she was willing to give because from the hairpin smile gave him, he was willing to do just that. He released her hand quickly after giving her a quick shake, not wanting to freak her out.

"Don't be sorry," he murmured, clearing his throat to get rid of some of the hoarseness and nervousness that had built in him, "we're all entitled to our own thoughts." He added as an aforethought.

"Fiction huh?" He considered looking through the stacks for a fiction book, wondering what he'd fine interesting since he hadn't read for fun in quite a while, "I'm perusing this labyrinth of books for cook books myself, know anything about where I could find them?" Aaron asked before adding another sentence to keep the conversation going, if just for another moment with her. "If not what kind of fiction would you-uh recommend?" He could almost hear his puppy dog answers, his eagerness that he hadn't had in such a while. It was well, refreshing.

PostSubject: Re: Something New (Amerix)    Something New (Amerix) EmptyWed Jan 07, 2015 11:24 pm

Amerix believed that a handshake could tell loads about a person. She did not believe herself an expert on the topic but she usually tried to gather a person’s character and personality from the handshake they gave. She had learned to do that to determine if the person she was shaking hands with could be trusted in the future. She had suffered too many betrayals, too much heartbreak to ever let herself be vulnerable again. No, she was going to look out for herself, put walls around her heart to protect it, keep up her defences.

The handshake she received from Aaron was firm but quick, a man’s handshake. It wasn’t a bone-crushing or vice-like grip. Amerix stayed away from those people. It showed a superior, controlling and authoritative personality and that wasn’t something she thought she could handle.

“Perhaps, but it shouldn’t distract us from what’s at hand,” she said, responding to his comment. She knew she tended to go off in a world of her own sometimes and it took a tap on the shoulder or someone calling her name multiple times to drag her out of her thoughts. She thought she detected a hint of nervousness in his tone of voice and that put her a little on edge. Why would he be nervous? Unless… No, it couldn’t be. Understanding dawned in her eyes. Was he interested in her? She’d have to guard her heart, but she couldn’t just cut him off now. It would be rude. Perhaps, just be polite?

“Cook books? I don’t know where to find them but I’m guessing that they’re upstairs,” she replied, gesturing to the floor above them. Then, going out on a limb she inquired, “Are you a chef?”

Amerix looked at his face as she spoke with him, trying to figure him out. She always liked to know who she was dealing with. That way, she would be better prepared about what to expect. He didn’t look like a student, at least not any she had seen at the Academy. Granted, she hadn’t been that sociable with the other students but she was quite certain that she had never seen him before. He looked mature, perhaps in his late twenties. She herself was twenty years old and the age gap worried her a little.

"If not what kind of fiction would you-uh recommend?"

Amerix grinned at that. She loved talking about books. “If you like something with a bunch of imagination, I’d recommend fantasy.” She held up the book she was holding. It was entitled Planet Z “This is the second book in the series. It’s about a group of astronauts exploring the universe, crash landing on a foreign and unknown planet and learning how to survive there. If I’m feeling um… emotional, I’d go for a romance. I read any kind of fiction, really, just so long as it takes my mind off um…yea.”

Amerix took a breath, blushing furiously as she turned her eyes to study her boots. She had said too much. That was probably the most she’d ever talked after meeting someone for the first time. Usually she would just nod and give one word answers. What was happening to her? She couldn’t let herself fall so easily for someone she didn’t even know well. Not to mention that he was older than her by more than a couple of years and she wasn’t ready to let her heart out of its cage of safety.

Short terse answers, Amerix. Short terse anwers.

    {{ OOC: SORRY LYD IT'S BEEN A CRAZY PAST FEW WEEKS >.< }}

Aaron blinked in surprise, for the most part when he said something others just tended to let fly by or over their heads. When she addressed it, he admired her lips for a quick second, pretty things they were. He dismissed the thought immediately, she wasn't about to jump into his arms and smother him with kisses (great thought that was however). So instead he closed off that part of his brain and tried to remember what it felt like when he had made "friends" back at Hogwarts. It wasn't too bad, it just wasn't enriched with flirty comments. He could do this. He quelled all the appearance based thoughts of her and went in favor of friendly thoughts.

He knew that Desiree and Amara would simply be on their arses laughing if they could hear his thoughts and it made him feel lighter, fonder, more on the ground and in touch with himself rather than a mess of words.

"Occasionally I play the role of chef," he replied to her question, before deciding to open a little more, "I own a pub-well restaurant in the making- called the Spiny Serpent. I'm trying to find ways to make it less Dark themed and more receptive to people who didn't wear black all the time." Aaron joked lightly, grinning a little for good measure.

"Fantasy huh?" He said stroking his chin, "I've always taken more to the non-fiction, historical fiction and whatnot but I'll be sure to look up Planet Z when I get the chance. Sounds brilliant with the way you describe it and whatnot." He hoped that last part didn't come off as too flirty.

"You're probably in college aren't you?" He took a miniscule step back, conscious that he might be intimidating her with this sort of proposition. "It's nice to know people still read. If you don't mind me asking, what are you majoring in?"

    [[OOC: It's okay. I don't mind Smile]]

Amerix was beginning to relax a little. He didn't look like a creepy stalker and he seemed quite friendly but Amerix knew all too well that looks could be deceiving and what a person seemed like may not be who they really are. She'd been through all of that and had no desire to do so again. Oh well, she just had to be careful and not give out too much too quickly. Other than that, there was no harm in being friendly.

Smiling broadly at his comment on the Spiny Serpent. "Perhaps changing the colour scheme might work. I mean like lighter wallpapers maybe?" Amerix suggested, adopting a questioning tone so as not to seem bossy or know-it-all. She'd never been to the Spiny Serpent. Then a thought struck her. Perhaps he should change the name. 'Spiny Serpent' didn't seem too inviting. She didn't think he could do that though and it seemed too much to suggest it so she just nodded as he talked about the book.

"Yeah. I love reading. Helps me escape reality for a while. I'm majoring in Auror," as she spoke, she noticed his step back and began questioning why he did so. Was it something about her? A random thought struck her and she almost laughed at the absurdity of it. Could she have body odour? She didn't think she had it but one couldn't be too careful.

"So, how did you come to own Spiny Serpent?" Amerix asked casually. She'd run out of questions to ask and making small talk was probably her worst nightmare. She was inept at continuing a conversation once it started and that was why people usually avoided her because it tended to be awkward.

Aaron had to confess. He loved challenges and that was mostly the reason he'd taken ownership of the Spiny Serpent. Financially they were afloat, but they could be making more money. It wasn't that he was greedy however, he figured that despite their family money, he wasn't going to be reliant on his parents. He'd one day have a family of his own; not anytime soon, hopefully.

"The color scheme?" He blinked in surprise, taken aback by the idea. For months he'd been caught on the idea that the reason the Spiny Serpent wasn't making what it should have been was the location, the food, but not the decor. That hadn't crossed his mind yet. "That's- that's actually brilliant, Amerix." Another idea came to mind, but he didn't want to scare her off with the proposition of her becoming a consultant to his reconstruction of the Spiny Serpent.

"An Auror huh?" The first traits to come to mind were the memory of what most Aurors he knew; headstrong, brave, dull. He winced, Amerix wasn't any of those as far as he could tell. Reading wasn't exactly a pass time for the idiots so he figured that she would probably make a better Auror than most of them. He was glad to have met her so far, as far as he could see not only was she beautiful (with the grace of not knowing it), but smart and quite courageous. "I'm sure it's quite the adventurous major so far, the classes are well- how do they train you do protect others?" He asked honestly curious.

"The owner was dying when I took it over some time ago," he said, truthful, "he hadn't been making enough at the time so I reimbursed him and his employees for their troubles before taking over the staff. I changed it up a rather lot so far, but it's still not hitting the quota it should." Aaron had never been so honest in his life, but that's what friends did, didn't they?

    "That's- that's actually brilliant, Amerix."

"Thank you," she replied softly, bending her head downwards a little. For whatever reason, the compliment made her suddenly shy. She was just glad that he didn't take offense at her suggestion. She knew people who got really mad when other people made suggestions. It wounded their pride or something. Men and their egos Amerix thought. She was really grateful that Aaron was not one of those guys. In fact, he seemed really really nice and Amerix could picture a friendship growing with him.

how do they train you do protect others?"

Amerix was stuck at that question. She really didn't know how to answer that. She wasn't the best at explaining things to people and usually the right words came to her only after the moment had passed but by then it was too late. Oh well, she should at least try.

"I..um.. Well, we have the mandatory potions class where we learn potions that would be useful like healing and offensive and defensive. Then we have combat training and some physical work to do. I actually missed the first lesson since I was late. Complications in the registration process," Amerix replied as fully as she could. She hadn't learnt that much yet since it was still the first year and they were only on the second lesson. She didn't pick the major for the adventure though.

"That was very generous of you. To reimburse the employees, I mean. Not many people would do that," she said. Then with a grin, she continued, "Maybe I'll bring some of my friends there one day. I'm sure they'll love the place as long as there is good food."

Aaron was a pureblood man true, but he also held no privileges against other purities. So he had a muggle watch. Sue him. In essence, he had to be back in thirty minutes or so, but he found himself uncaring just a little bit for punctuality. It was a strange rush he got from defying his own principles, but he didn't want to leave the pleasant and rather unusual presence. Pleasant in the way that she spoke was with eloquence, albeit hints of nervousness, and unusual in the fact that he had not had a conversation in quite a stretch of time that didn't involve him having an ulterior motive. There was somewhat of an ulterior motive here (as always), but he didn't want to act on it.

Thirty minutes, Aaron, make it count, he thought to himself.

"Well, if you don't mind me asking of course, Amerix, what exactly made you want to be an Auror?." He paused, remembering that an important step in friendship was to trust the other enough to share details about themselves. "I became a shopkeeper over a Ministry official because of the delight the triumph of overcoming a challenge brings. The Spiny Serpent makes enough to stay afloat, but not nearly as much as places like the Leaky Cauldron, and before yourdecor comment I had simply chalked up it's lack of customers to it's unfortunate location in Knockturn Alley." He said as plainly as he could, unnerved by the honesty he was giving another human. Friendships take trust, friendships that turn into more also take trust, he thought to himself in a motivational tone.

"You don't have to say anything, if you don't want to. We can put the question on the back burner." He added, smiling reassuringly.

"Generous huh?" Aaron grinned genuinely amused by the thought, "well, perhaps that's something you could also help me with? I'm afraid despite all the cookbooks I'll buy I'm not quite sure what'll attract more pretty youths such as yourself to a pub."

PostSubject: Re: Something New (Amerix)    Something New (Amerix) EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 5:00 am

Amerix thought that the conversation was going pretty well. It was more comfortable than other conversations that she had and although she was still a little self-conscious, at least it wasn't that awkward. Aaron was proving to be one of the nicer males in her life. And then, he had to ask that question.

She listened to him distractedly as she decided what to say. Should she tell him all? Every single thing? That would be a long story. If she did, he might think ill of her. It was bound to completely change his perspective. He'd never speak to her again and he'd avoid her. And yet, if she didn't tell him, the conversation would take a turn for awkwardness. He'd know he'd touched a sensitive topic and then they'd have to abruptly change the topic. Then again, if she didn't tell him, she'd feel guilty because he'd confided in her and it wouldn't be fair for him to tell her things and for her not to do the same. But he'd said that she didn't need to tell him.

Oh what should I do? she thought to herself. She'd have to start trusting again some time or other and Aaron seemed like a good place to start. She was only afraid he would judge her and that by telling him, she'd chase him away. Perhaps she didn't have to give the full story. Just everything in a nutshell.

She decided to reply the less daunting topic before working her way up. "I like challenges too. It tests me and shows me what I can and cannot do." She paused, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves before continuing. "I..er..It's a long story. Why I wanted to become an Auror, I mean," she replied, staring at her clasped hands as one thumb rubbed the other. She glanced up at him then turned her eyes down a little as she said, "I..was..um..bullied. Bullied in school. And it was partly my fault. I had a lot of um..bad experiences. I wanted to become an Auror to protect others. Keep them from going through the same things I did."

She grinned at his comment about the pub. "Well, I'm not much of a master at business but excellent food and music would be a start. And maybe having an open day with discounts would be great." Amerix stopped there, biting her lip a little. She was sounding a little bossy for her liking. She herself didn't really know what young people would like. She didn't hang out with friends much and preferred sticking to herself so she didn't know what were the latest trends.

Aaron wished, not briefly but a thought that was rather constant, that more people like Amerix existed. Then he wouldn't feel a perpetuating despise for most people. She was smart, durable, lovely, and thank the Gods only spoke when necessary. He was used to using someone and them using him back; an equal manipulation on both parts. He was used to women who played with men like cats did with yarn. That wasn't Amerix. Otherwise they wouldn't be in a bookstore still, they'd be having dinner and playing mind games. This wasn't something he was comfortable with. However, he find that the honesty thing, the friends thing, all of it was very - well, refreshing.

At her story he was surprised and a little pissed; if he'd been younger he wouldn't have allowed such a thing to happen. He took shit from no one, except maybe his sisters because they were rather pushy and he tended to just do as they pleased to avoid confrontation, and he found himself wanting to offer her comfort. Gently, slowly so she could stop him if he wanted, he placed one of his hands over hers and looked into her eyes, ignoring the skip in his heart beat in order to show consoling.

"Whatever they said to you could not have been true. Your reason for becoming an Auror is magnificent. Your reason for wanting to be an Auror is enough to tell me that you're stronger than most would assume and that'll give you an element of surprise that other's would never have." He paused, letting his hand linger for just a moment, to savor it before moving his hand back into his pocket. "In fact, I'd say you're smarter than Aurors I know."

"Would you mind working with me on fixing up the Spiny Serpent?" He asked, not bothering to beat around the bush. "You're well-versed in this kind of knowledge and I appreciate that kind of eye." Aaron grinned warmly for good measure.

PostSubject: Re: Something New (Amerix)    Something New (Amerix) EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 10:04 pm

Amerix knew the feeling that came with adrenaline saturating one's blood. She knew the rhythm the heart makes as it pounded in anticipation. She knew the feeling of holding one's breath until an answer was given. And it all happened to her in that moment as she waited for his reply. But then she felt the touch of his hand. Amerix expected to tense up, expected to startle and jump away and yet the warmth of his palm resting on her petite hands calmed her racing heart, steadied her nerves, made her breath again.

It was the last thing she expected, to be comforted with a male's touch after she vowed never to get close to a guy again. The magnetic pull of his eyes drew her gaze to his and she was lost in their chocolate depths. She read sincerity in his eyes as she listened to the melody of his voice. She felt the loss of his hand as he drew it away, almost wishing that it still covered hers.

"In fact, I'd say you're smarter than Aurors I know."

Before she could think it through, she heard herself whispering, "Don't say that. Don't say that. You don't know me." After all, if she hadn't been so stupid and stubborn, refusing to listen to her parents and best friend, she'd never be this broken, bearing the scars and the hurt and the pain. But Aaron was right in saying that she was stronger. Although she was still learning to let go of the past and move on, she was getting stronger a little everyday. The lyrics of 'A Little Bit Stronger' came to mind and brought a small smile to her face.

"Would you mind working with me on fixing up the Spiny Serpent?"

Now, that was a surprise and left her fumbling for words. Of course, she was flattered that he asked her to help him but her self-doubt was starting to play up and it left her feeling a little lost and unsure. "Are you..sure? I mean, I'm not good at these kind of things. Being creative, I mean. But I could do the physical stuff like painting or decorating."

Aaron usually took pleasure in knowing he had the upper hand in any situation; power was not to be shared after all. Except with Amerix there was no want in him to have the upperhand. If anything it thrilled him to see her do so, she was a magnificent woman from what he'd seen and heard so far. From his own perspective she was, without a doubt, the most fascinating woman he'd made contact with. Despite the butterflies in his stomach and the skip of his heart beat that made him feel more eight than twenty-eight, he knew the differences between the usual twits he took home and one like Amerix standing before him. He'd never before been so entranced by a single person.

Ah, there it was. The reason for her shyness, he thought angrily at the knowledge that it had been humans who had hurt her in such a way that this beautiful youth could no longer trust wholeheartedly. Someone had hurt Amerix enough to not easily give her trust. For her precaution had been about protecting herself, he understood this. He reached out once more, to console again, give her a sign of trust. However, he paused amidst his movement to touch her and instead offered his hand palm up, awkwardly (he really hadn't been in the business of comforting young women), as if trying to offer his hand to hold.

"I know I don't know you very much at the moment, Amerix, however, I would like to be friends with you," then more, his brain added silently, "because you're brilliant, and I am once more hopeful at the knowledge people such as yourself exist." He smiled then in manners that did not tend to describe himself: genuinely, warmly, sincerely.

He nodded his head at her reluctance to help. "You've done a wonderful job giving me ideas, I don't doubt that you would not let me down, and the physical stuff is what we've got magic for."

Amerix had never felt so at ease while conversing with a guy. The more time she spent in Aaron's company, the more relaxed she began to feel. She didn't know what surprised her more: the fact that she found it enjoyable talking with him or the fact that he hadn't found her company boring like most people did. This was probably the longest conversation she had ever had with someone she just met. That made the wheels in her head begin to turn again. Did he truly find her interesting and why did he stay so long? She didn't thing she'd need to fear him. So far, Amerix read sincerity in his expression and that put her at ease. She was just curious. What did he find so interesting in her? Everyone else considered her an average person and she wasn't about to argue with that.

A movement from his caught her eye and she glanced to see him offer his hand to her. That confused her. Did he want to take her somewhere? Did he want to just hold her hand? Would that be awkward? She recalled the feeling of his hand on hers, the warmth seeping into her skin, the calmness and peace it brought to her soul. Should she let her guard down? He'd been nothing but a gentleman. Perhaps she should trust him a little and if he did something that made her uncomfortable, she could always pull back. Unsure of what he really wanted, she slipped her hand into his tentatively and once again felt the assurance in his touch.

Amerix smiled at his offer to be friends and blushed a little at his compliment. "I would very much like to be friends, Aaron. But I assure you that I'm not what you describe as brilliant. I'm very very average."

"You've done a wonderful job giving me ideas, I don't doubt that you would not let me down, and the physical stuff is what we've got magic for."

"Thank you. I could come by sometime and have a look at the place. Maybe bring a few friends along with me," she replied, grinning at his comment on magic. "Well, I occasionally like doing things the Muggle way."

In all honesty, Aaron was quite humbled by this experience. It was honestly strange for him to not be consistently flirting with a person, coercing them to go home with him, to even sneak a kiss or two before they got back to his place when he'd romance them there. Then - well he was going onto a tangent, he seemed to be doing that quite often, but the point was, he hadn't made "friends" in a long time. Amerix was a perfect beginning, she was shielded clearly, but he had no ulterior motive in becoming friends with her. He just didn't want to be one of those guys who was surrounded by no one in St. Mungo's if he ever got sick. She was a clever girl, if a bit shy for his tastes, but she was clearly holding back from becoming something great. Well, there was also the matter that something had happened to her in her past that changed her opinion of herself. This young witch should be gallivanting through life, boys falling at her feet, life coming to her with ease because of her beauty.

    Except she wasn't.

For that, Aaron grew more fond of Amerix.

"I'm not used to showing affection," Aaron told her honesty as he gave her hand a squeeze back, feeling a squeeze in his heart just as tight, "and this is my way of doing so, properly I hope." He grinned nervously at her. It was genuine and boyish, a sort of smile he hadn't smiled in a long while. The words he didn't say, he sort of wished he had said aloud: "You're the first friend I've made in a while, and I want to be more, but I don't want to scare you off." She probably would be shocked and run off nervously, which he really didn't want. So he said nothing, just squeezed her hand and stared down at her fondly.

"I-" I don't want you to speak so badly about yourself, because you can't possibly be a terrible person, "I will be the best friend you could ever ask for." He grinned boyishly again. "I mean I'm me, how couldn't I be?" Aaron, being Aaron was actually only half-kidding but he hoped she couldn't tell.

Aaron glanced down at his wrist, crap, he realized how fast time had flown. So he pulled his hand away, cursing the loss of warmth before taking out a business card.

"It's a good way to do things," he commented as he looked over the card to ensure all the information was on it before he handed her the card.

"Owl me here, so I can owl back and we can do the whole getting to be best friends thing." He said smiling down at her, honest and pure. "I've got to run, but I'll be in correspondence immediately." With that he gave her a wave from over his shoulder as he sauntered out of the bookstore, cookbooks forgotten.
