Cordelai slipped off her jacket, tying it around her waist as she stepped into the club. It was too hot for that right now, although if she opted to sit by the bar and not actually dance, she might need it later on. She wasn't wearing what one might deem appropriate for someone of her status, but she liked the look and - quite frankly - did not care what people might say. After all, people said a lot of things, and she said a lot of things about others, too. Any talk was good talk, so long as she was remembered.

Looking around, her eyes sparkled in anticipation. This was living. As much as she enjoyed wearing long, silk dresses and ball gowns and heels, and speaking politely and decently with everyone, there was just something else that was missing - loud music, and nobody giving a rat's ass if you swore.

Stepping straight onto the dance floor, Cordelai joined the mass of people, allowing her body to follow the rhythm. Hopefully, she would meet people from the University she could befriend; Merlin knew anyone who was worth being friends with would be here.

He needed to let loose. The past few weeks for Seth had been almost torturous for him. As the Corbett heir, he had to fulfill his duty and show himself at Pureblood functions with Serafina on his arm. Of course, her conversations made the uptight parties more tolerable but Seth had maxed out his patience meter for Pureblood mannerisms. The constant smile and perfect polite social behaviour made him restless for something more. He needed something fun, lively and wild.

As night fell, Seth ran a hand through his had and slipped on his favourite black leather jacket over a simple dark grey shirt. Ready to have some fun, he headed to the Fireball Dance Club. He'd taken a few drinks, danced a few dances and chatted with a few friend when he spotted a blonde female enjoying herself on the dance floor. She looked familiar and he searched his memory for a name. Rohensen. That's right. First name....Cordelai. If it had been any other time, he wouldn't have hesitated to join her in the dance and flirt with her. But it was now no secret that he and Serafina were a couple. A fake one but one had to keep up appearances. It would not do for him to be seen flirting with girl while courting another. He thought for a while, wondering what his best move could be before abandoning his drink on the bar and joining the crowd on the dance floor.

He danced his way to her, enjoying the way he could let his body loose with the music. It was such a refreshing change from the waltzes he'd been trained to do. He danced beside her for a while before catching her eye and flashing her his trademark grin. "Looking fabulous tonight, Rohensen," he said, loud enough that he could be heard over the music but not too loud that it would seem he was putting a lot of effort into being heard.

Minutes flew by, and Cordelai had no need to keep track of time. It could have been three in the morning for all she cared; there was nothing on her schedule the next day (or that day, if it was indeed early morning) and she would be able to sleep in as long as she liked. Being hungover was never something she enjoyed, though, which was why she had made sure to stock up a few potions at her place in the event she get piss drunk and dance the night away. It was no big secret among her friends that she could hold her alcohol, however, and she wasn't feeling in the mood for being drunk alone, and so unless she met someone to have fun alongside, the chances weren't in favour of that option.

A deliberate movement got her attention, and she turned subtly to watch the man dancing nearest her. How she knew was no remarkable gifting; it was just years of experience in places like this. To her, it was easy to spot people purposely casually dancing in her vicinity, and those that didn't have any agendas.

He was cute, she'd give him that, but she would need more than that. Intellect and brains and conversation actually did matter some to her; she knew her worth, as a Pureblood and a female, and wouldn't exchange that for the world. Even if it meant passing up on a little fun now and then, because the form the 'fun' came in would only diminish her reputation in her own eyes. Hers, because it didn't really matter what others thought of her.

In the dimness of the club, it took her a few more moments than it should have to place to male, but when the name came, Cordelai couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, not bothering to keep it hidden or subtle. Seth Corbett. Dating Serafina Richardson. The latter family never liked hers; the Cordelai's were far too unconventional for the high and mighty Richarsons (note sarcasm, she thought to herself, with a tiny smirk). Once and only once had she had the utmost pleasure to interact with the oldest Richarson, and it had not been an interaction that changed any preconceptions that either of them held, if Serafina's expressions had been anything to go by.

Then again, Cordelai had been purposely acting up, just because.

So why, then, was Seth approaching her? Cordelai's interest was piqued, but she waited. It was just how the game went, and when he did speak, she didn't even pretend that she hadn't already noticed him noticing her. "Seth," she greeted, smiling in return. "Did you know," she continued, tone obviously sarcastic, "that there are five of us? My mother will attest to the fact we are all highly individualistic." Allowing a heartbeat to pass, she continued in a casual tone, "We find it the epitome of disrespect to refer to all of us in the same manner."

A few moments passed before she let out a laugh and stuck out her hand, adding a wink. "You know my first name. Use it."

Arthur didn't usually go clubbing. The last time he had it had been a muggle club but he doubted the dress code would be much different. It had been a while since he had danced. At Merlin's Masquerade no one had been in the mood and he had missed a few pureblood functions due to school and training.

He put on a pair of jeans, a black shirt and wore a leather jacket along with black shoes. He wasn't overly concerned with what people would say if they found him here, instead enjoying the atmosphere. Arthur let his body follow the music as he joined the mass on the dance floor.

Eventually he lost track of time. He didn't know how long he had stayed but he was sure that it was longer than he had intended to. Somehow he'd found two certain individuals among the mass of people and made his way over to them.

"Hey guys," he said once he was close enough. He hadn't expected to see them here.

Seth liked to find out everything he could about a situation before diving into it. Perhaps it was his fantabulous business sense and the training ingrained into him by his father or perhaps it was because he liked to know what he was getting himself into. Then again, it could be because he hated unpleasant surprises and disliked being put on the spot. Whatever it was, Seth calculated every risk he took which was why he searched his memory, trying to dig up any and all information about Cordelai Rohensen. He'd seen her around in the academy many times, sharing the same classes with her, but he knew more about her family.

They weren't conventional and that suited him fine. They weren't the stuck-up, iron-rod-in-the-derriere Pureblood family. He knew, from his history lessons, that they stood up for Muggleborns and didn't despise them like so many other Purebloods. That alone made him like the family. He had many Muggleborn friends and though his family - well, his mother actually - disapproved of his association with them, he paid her no heed.

The moment he spoke, he knew that she'd noticed him approaching her. How she knew, he had no clue. He was a master at the game, able to control the whole situation and manipulate the female so that she didn't even know she was being nudged into where he wanted her to be. Interesting. It seems I've met my female counterpart. This was going to be fun.

He grinned at her words, inclining his head to acknowledge what she'd said. "Of course," he responded to her question though there was no missing the sarcasm in her tone. "Your reputation precedes you."

He took her hand and returned the wink. "Who am I to deny a lady's wish? Cordelai it is. Would you like a drink?"

Just as he'd posed the question, a new voice appeared on the scene. He turned his head and saw another student. Arthur, if he remembered correctly. They weren't in the same major but he'd seen the guy around a couple times. He returned the greeting then gestured to Cordelai. "In case you haven't met, this is Cordelai," he said, putting his hand casually on her shoulder to indicate her before lifting it off. "And this," he gave Arthur a manly pat on the back, "is Arthur."

"I certainly hope you don't base all your interactions solely on reputations," she retorted, not missing a single beat. "After all, there are many things going around about the both of us - some of which are rather contradictory, if I dare say." Eyes sparkling with humour, it would be clear to others - if they could read body language in the slightest - that she was jesting around, and not actually offended. Playing with words was always fun, especially if the person with whom she was bantering with could dish it as well as take it. Perhaps it wasn't exactly conventional to be sarcastic or snarky, but it was who she was, and why would she hide that?

Pureblood conventions were a given, but there was always - always - leeway for fun. After all, if there was no fun involved, why bother with anything?

That was forward, was the first thing in her mind at the offer for a drink, and she paused momentarily, smile still on her face, as though she was considering it. In fact, she was trying to figure something out before she accepted. He was taken, in a relationship with a Richardson, and that was one family she did not want to cross - especially not since his girlfriend already had displayed dislike towards her. The Rohensens, it seemed, were too unconventional for the witch, despite the rumours of her refusal to marry that had floated around for a while. Except, Cordelai was now looking at her betrothed, so those rumours couldn't have much weight to it.

Shame. He's quite something, she thought, hiding a smirk. Seth was fun. Husband material, perhaps not so, but definitely fun. And that was a commodity in the Pureblood world nowadays.

Luckily, someone stepped up, hiding the fact she had paused, and she turned to regard the new male. A student, then, she decided at the introduction. She was new, a first year in a new setting, and hadn't yet had the time to make her way around the other courses yet. Slowly, she would, but as of now, the only people she really knew were those in Dragoneering, like herself.

"Are you always so quick to lay hands on those you just meet, Seth, or is it just the pretty ones?" she murmured, just loud enough for him - and nobody else - to hear.

Stepping forward, past the male, she flashed a grin at the person who just joined them. Arthur; Silverstone. Also a Pureblood family, Cordelai had been taught to respect them, since their ancestors had also fought in the Battle of Hogwarts. If both families did so side by side or if they had not realised they were on the same side she wasn't sure, but whatever the case, the Silverstones were to be respected.

A genuine smile on her face, she offered him a hand. "Arthur, it's a pleasure to meet you. Our families have history together; I'm sure we're going to be good friends," she greeted, tone not flirty in the least, and taking on an actual polite tone.

Turning back to Seth, a mischevious glint passing over her expression, she added, "I'm sure we'd love a drink."

Well he didn't need to worry about introductions then. Arthur did know Cordelai but only by reptuation and reptuation could be a tricky thing. Not that he really knew Seth either, at least he had seen him around campus. They were different majors and never stroke up a conversation.

He thought that he might have saw her murmur something but it was said too quietly for him to catch. If he hadn't been one to try his best to be obveservant (partly for when he became an Auror and partly because it was a good idea in general) he might have not noticed at all.

He shook her hand firmly and not for too long. "Certainly." He remembered hearing about the Rohensens' part in the battle of Hogwarts. They were a respectful family who might have fought along side his. He gave a polite smile. "Its a pleasure to meet you too."

Arthur was caught a bit off gaurd by her answering for him. A drink didn't sound like a bad idea but her mischevious glint made him wonder if he should be worried.

"You underestimate and misunderstand me, my dear," Seth responded. "Reputation merely tells me what the majority of the public thinks about a person. I make up my own mind about someone." He let out her hearty chuckle at her next words. "I'm sure you do," he replied. "And yes, a great many things indeed. There's one going around that you're not betrothed yet because you're into girls and not guys." He'd had the same rumour going on about him until it was overtaken by the rumour that he'd bedded nigh a hundred girls. It was interesting and highly amusing to see the imagination of the public run wild. The things they could cook up kept him laughing for a long time.

If only Serafina wasn't as uptight as she was. It would do her a world of good to let her hair down once in a while - in the figurative sense, of course. He'd love to see her reaction on a roller coaster. Thinking about Serafina now made him recollect something she'd said in passing to him about Cordelai. He grinned. She'd disapproved of her and now Seth understood why. Hmm, perhaps I should plan a meeting. The three of us together. Oh, that would be a sight to see! Seth kept his thoughts to himself, not giving a hint of what went on in his head. It was something he'd mastered, having to constantly do it when he was amongst Pureblood people.

At her question, Seth couldn't help but chuckle lightly. "Just you, sweetheart," he murmured with a heart-stopping grin. It wasn't true, of course, but Seth never claimed to be a highly honest person.

He watched the exchange between Arthur and Cordelai with interest. She had manners. Anyone with eyes could see that. But she also knew how to have fun, flirt and tease. Very interesting. He waited until the two of them were done with social niceties. Not missing the mischievousness in her eyes, Seth nodded his head. "Awesome. Let's go to the bar then."

He led the way, winding through the people on the floor. Once at the bar, he called the bartender over and gestured for the two people with him to place their order. When they were done, he added his order of a Firewhiskey then turned to Arthur.

"What brings you out tonight, Arhur?" he asked, his tone friendly and amiable. He would've liked to flirt with Cordelai more but knew it was bad taste to do it front of someone else.

He could feel Seth studying his interaction with Cordelai and wondered what conclusions Seth had drawn. If only he could mind read instead of seeing the future, he bet that he could have gotten much more use out of that ability.

Arthur followed Seth to the bar, sure that Cordelai wouldn't be far behind. He weaved through people with practiced ease, although these people were rowdier than his usual crowd of purebloods or students.

Once they were at the bar and the bar tender was called over he gave the menu a quick look over before ordering a Hufflepuff Badger Blaster, with some embarassment. He had been teased about his choice the first time he tried it. But it was a good drink and his friend had loved any excuse to tease him. He could always claim house pride (not that he wasn't proud of being a Puff).

"Dancing," Arthur stated. "I heard good things about this club and thought I'd try it." He looked between Seth and Cordelai when asking "What about you?" He doubted their reasons were very different but it was polite to ask. And he bet they had a more interesting way to word their answers.

He was smooth. She'd give him that much. For someone who was betrothed to someone as powerful as a Richardson, he didn't seem very concerned with flirting with others - if that was what he was doing - and Cordelai had no qualms playing along. She would never go after a taken man, but if they came after her? Well, that was a whole other question. His answer made her laugh. There were many things going around, and Cordelai honestly just found fascination in all of them.

"And if I am?" she teased. "Would that break your heart?"

This was fun - more so than she expected - and she was glad that she had decided to get out of the house. Seth Corbett was, in a word, interesting. But Cordelai also knew she had to tread very, very carefully. After all, her family's reputation was at stake should anyone so much as accuse her of romanticising a taken man. The Pureblood world was corrupt and shady in many areas, but this was one area in which toying the line was not a good idea. And Cordelai was anything but dumb.

"And you, Seth," she continued. "Is it really true that you make it a game to bed pretty girls like me?" This was a genuine question; she was honestly curious. If he did or did not wasn't a big deal (to each their own, she would say), but if he was as open as that, she wouldn't allow it to go that far. She wanted to be special, not just another number or name on a list.

She chuckled and rolled her eyes surreptitiously at his reply, wondering about the genuinely of his words. If the rumours were true, he had many 'just you's, and equally as many 'sweethearts'. Still, things like that tended to make a female feel special, and she basked in it; it didn't really matter how many he said it to, as long as she was one of them.

Biting back a smirk, she followed behind, allowing Arthur to go ahead. Seth was dangerous, that much she had already figured out, and she needed time to plan her cards - if she even had any worth playing. Cordelai wasn't afraid of folding if she didn't; there was no shame in passing over one opportunity for a better one. That was the first trade of business, and she found it applied to social circles as well. Taking a seat next to Seth, she flashed the bartender a smile. He would, in time, come to recognise her and her favourite orders, that was for sure.

Drinking was something she enjoyed. Raised to know the different types and all those she should order hadn't done much; Cordelai had a good liver and could hold her alcohol better than most females. She also tended to prefer drinks considered 'manly', though if you asked her she would raise very strong rejections on the sexism behind alcohol. Not bothering to even pretend to be self-conscious, she ordered a Manhattan.

As soon as Authur finished, she leaned forward and interjected her own answer at this point. "Oh, you know, the typical - drinks, dancing, and guys. A bit of fun never really hurt anyone, did it?" Turning to Seth, she grinned at him a little. "And you? What brings the betrothed Corbett heir out to a club like this, and without your beautiful fiance?"

He grinned at her response, excited that he'd found someone he could banter with. This night was turning out better than he expected. He really should go out more often. "I would be shattered, sweetheart. Heartbroken and utterly devastated," he responded, adopting a wounded look and placing one hand over his heart. "You'd have to spend the rest of your life picking up the pieces and mending me back again."

He winked in response at her next question. "Definitely, my dear. There is no better game," he answered then let out a theatrical sigh. "Unfortunately, there's this little matter of my betrothal to a certain Richardson - which I'm sure you know of. Such things can be rather annoying in the game. Restrictive even. So you don't have to worry; you're safe with me." He'd heard the sincerity in her question and though the first part of his answer was given in his usual playful tone, the last sentence brokered no argument as to his position with her. It was completely hands-off, words only relationship. The stakes were too high to risk anything else.

At the bar, he raised one eyebrow at her drink order. "Excellent choice, Cordelai," he commented. It was rare to find a girl that could hold her alcohol well. Seth had interacted enough with her to not be taken completely by surprise but he was impressed. He didn't think Serafina would drink. She'd probably call it unladylike or some other nonsensical reason. Cordelai was going to be more than just a mere acquaintance. She'd be his friend.

Seth nodded in response to Arthur's words. "Yup. This is probably the best club a Pureblood could go to. Muggle ones are excellent too though. Have you ever been in a Muggle night club? The music and the ladies are amazing," he grinned.

His gaze turned to Cordelai as she talked. "Like you said, a night of fun," he responded, shrugging nonchalantly. "Pureblood functions can be painfully boring and uptight. And don't you know the saying 'absence makes the heart fonder'? One night spent away from one's fiance is healthy. Besides, dear Serafina would probably never agree to coming to a night club." That much was true. It was difficult to picture her in a floor length gown in a club like this. She'd stick out like a sore thumb.

"I have," Arthur answered. He wouldn't say that it had really been that different of an experience. The drinks here were better though and it was nice to be around people who were aware of magic. He smiled. "Muggles have some really great clubs."

Arthur wasn't surprised by her order. He wondered if they were heavier drinkers than he was.

"I do Auror training with her," Arthur said thoughtfully. "Serafina I mean." He didn't think what he meant was unclear but it didn't hurt to make sure. Arthur tried to picture her in one of her fashionable dresses out on the dance floor. Perhaps she would prefer a boring pureblood function to that. It would certainly be interesting.

"Do you go to Merlin's Academy, Cordelai?" he asked. He hadn't seen her in Auror training so that left three other majors, unless she had a reason to miss classes.
