Today was the second lesson that he would be conducting, and he couldn't help but worry over it. Last time many things occurred that he had not factored in when it came to teaching. For one thing was the fact that he'd got potion residue on him, next was the fact that people were late. He hated things he couldn't control, and this time around, he had to be able to accept that.

He pondered over that part of healing he would show, Healer work was the first one, now the second one would be about Auror work he supposed. Leaning back on his chair, he had timed the door to lock after the first fifteen minutes of class, to make sure no one would arrive late to his class. Smirking to himself, he tapped his fingers on his desk and waited.

Melody entered the classroom and greeted the professor before sitting down. She wasn't sure what to expect from this lesson. She hadn't figured out how to use the ectoplasm last time but the professor hadn't taken off any marks for it. Maybe this was just part two of the potion they made the last time. It could be something completely different she knew, she just hoped she was prepared.

The classroom hadn't filled out yet but it was bound to soon. Better early than late and she could stand to wait for a while. Hopefully that girl who got injured last lesson was okay now.

Cassana with slight reluctance, her body was a little worn from the run she had that morning. However, she was nonetheless excited for her first actual lesson in Healing Potions. With her backpack straps tight in both of her hands as she walked in with a collected confidence. She was excited to learn more about Healing Potions as it was her furthering her education more of the subject. As she passed his desk she gave her professor a cordial, closed mouthed smile.

"Good day, Professor Holmes," she greeted with a nod of her head before taking her seat at a table. As she sat, she took out her note-taking items, before her brain

Amerix walked towards the potions classroom trying to get herself in the mood for learning and studying. She was still trying to settle in her new environment and was feeling a little homesick. So far, she hadn’t made many friends or acquaintances yet except for Brooke and Liliana. And even then, she didn’t know them that well. It was to be expected though, given her track record for making friends. Her mom would tell her to give it time. After all, she would spend four years here.

Opening the door, she saw that two other students were there with the professor. She greeted him politely and chose a seat at the centre of the third row. She was early and she liked it that way because it gave her time to prepare herself for learning something new. After setting out her notebook and pen, she took out an elastic band and began French braiding her thick hair. If they were going to do something practical, she wanted it out of the way. That done, she patiently waited for the rest of the students to show up.

Throwing on a large, oversized cardigan and scarf, Rhian grabbed an apple from the kitchenette in her dorm. She hadn't seen Ariel that morning, but then, she did kind of sleep like the dead. Throwing her hair up into a messy bun, she stuffed a few pencils through the mess of it and pulled her bag over her shoulder. Since that first day of classes, she'd learned how to manager her time a bit more. With a more reliable alarm clock next to her single bed, and a few less hours at the pub, she'd found some kind of neutral ground. Her wallet may not like it as much, but she was determined to do better in classes. Besides, she knew how to go without.

Moving through the halls of the castle, she was surprised to feel how familiar it was all becoming. The first few months had been very strange. After seven years in one school, a new one was very off-putting. But it was December now, and with the setting in of winter, came a feeling of complete routine. Yes, there were still things that caught her off guard, but she'd kind of figured most of it out now.

The class was rather empty now. Only a few girls she didn't really know. That used to bother her, but now...well, it just comes with being in different majors. Since Healing was the only class that they all had together, it was just something to deal with. With a small smile to the professor, her best friend's brother, she took a seat off to the side. Tess would probably be along shortly. Even if they didn't work together, they always worked alongside each other.

Walking to campus, Tess sighed knowing that she couldn't have stayed in her flat all day as she had wanted. Potions was a never ending reminder of what could have been. She often wondered if she was making a mistake by not taking the one subject that she could pass with flying colors. She was just too indecisive. She huffed annoyed at her own insecurities and pushed the door to the main castle taking her sweet time walking to class. She never liked being first, too awkward to have a class with her brother. She was still bitter at the grading he gave her, but she let it go, for the sake of getting a better grade. She was not going to talk, no matter how quiet the class got. Was she being stupid? Quite possibly, but she wouldn't dwell on it.

Finally reaching the dungeons, she pushed the door open to find it already filled with people. Seeing her brother she nodded his way before noticing Cassana there. Smiling softly her way she signaled that she was going to sit with Rhian before shuffling off. Sliding onto the seat she nudge Rhian in greeting.

"On time I see" she muttered. "Learned you lesson too"

Arthur entered the classroom, greeted the professor and found a place to sit. He noticed that the classroom wasn't very empty nut maybe not everyone had made it yet. Sitting by himself since there was no one he knew in the classroom, he waited for the professor to begin the lesson.

He hoped he did well this lesson and tried not to think about anything else. He glanced around quickly before turning his eyes back to the board. The lesson wasn't up yet and he wondered if they were going to do part two of the potion they did last class.

PostSubject: Re: Healing Potions Lesson 2: General Education    Healing Potions Lesson 2: General Education EmptySun Jan 04, 2015 2:42 am

Ariel had woken up exceptionally early that morning. She'd snuck silently out as to not wake up Rhian, but she had learned that this would not really be a problem; Rhian was one heck of a heavy sleeper. Ariel found that pretty darned amusing, as she herself was an earlybird, going to bed late. In other words, she always got a bit too little sleep. She was currently located in the library, doing some studies when she checked her time. She freaked. Seriously?! Sure, she had plenty time to get herself to the healing potions classroom, but she hadn't noticed how quickly the time had gone by.

She got her things together and walked to the dungeons. It was weird how potions was always located in the dungeons. Sure, in the muggle world it was very understandable, given the fact that it would be a more secure location in case of a mix that did not match. But in the magical world, they could be having potions on the top towers with thin windows as walls. If one knew the right spells, it wouldn't be a problem. But she found herself walking a familiar, but completely different way. The second lesson was going to be great though.

A lot of weird things had happened last lesson, but Ariel had kept to herself throughout, only saying hi to Brooke, and then keeping her mouth shut, doing her work, and avoiding the chaos. It had worked out perfectly well for her. She entered the classroom and saw that not many people had showed up. Still quite a few lacked. Ariel's eyes fell on Rhian and a girl sitting beside her. She decided that sitting there would be great. So she walked up and sat down on the other side of Rhian. "Howdy," she said jokingly and gave a kind smile to the other girl who she didn't know was, but suspected that it was the best friend of Rhian that she had seen her sitting with last class.

Aqua decided to show up once again to Healing Potions lesson. It was class what all needed to take. She hoped that she won't be late for lesson now. Last time she was actually one time, if she remembers right.

She soon walked into the classroom and greeted the professor. Now she looked around the classroom and wondered where to sit. There wasn't that much empty seats since there was quite many people already. She sighed. She barely knew anyone in this lesson actually. Just one boy, Arthur and that was all who she knew by name for sure there.

She walked then to him. "Is it okay If I sit next to you?" she asked there first. It was better first ask than just sit next to the boy. Maybe Arthur is waiting someone else to sit next to her. Who knows. She just waited his answer back before sitting down. If he says no Aqua can find other seat to sit too.

Arthur looked up. He was glad to see Aqua again. He remembered back their jog in the forest. They hadn't hanged out a lot so far but maybe they'd have time to later if she wasn't busy with something else.

"Go ahead," he replied. "Its nice to see you again." He hoped that they didn't get in trouble for talking. Although he also didn't want to end up alienating her but then she might understand if he didn't say a lot during class. He certainly put a lot of concentration into class, especially potions.

Glad for an indoor class, for a change, Christian pulled off his jacket and stuffed it in his bag. The castle wasn't overly warm, being mostly stone, but it was better than working out in the snow. No matter how heated he got, the cold air being tugged into his lungs never changed.

The dungeons were easy enough to find, even without a map of any kind. What is it with these potion people? he wondered. At Hogwarts, it had been all about the Slytherins. Slimey snakes, or some kind of rubbish. Honestly, he didn't care about houses. He'd made friends where he could, and people had generally liked him. Back then...

Now? Well, that had been two years ago. When life was easy.

Walking into class, he saw groupings here and there. Connections made, no doubt, in the first few lessons. He'd come to the academy late int he term, due to...personal reasons. Amelia had been ill and he just couldn't be away then. The Headmaster had been kind enough to allow him to start now, and work with the professors on making up the time lost. Still, it meant that everyone else had at least seen each other before.

Steeling his resolve, he grabbed a seat near the front, not allowing himself the option of being nervous. He was here to learn as much as possible. He had to. The professor was stationed at the front of the room, as usual. Christian couldn't get any sort of read on him, so he simply gave a polite greeting and tried to get ready for the lesson.

Another potions lesson was around the corner and already Brooke was nervous. While the extra classes had helped a lot, and she was now to have a tuition partner who also happened to be her room-mate, she was still fairly uncertain about how things would turn out. Walking down the corridor, she kept repeating what had happened during the make-up class, trying to keep a positive view about it all. But at the back of her mind was the memory of the exploding potion and the squelch Professor Holmes' shoes had made.

Entering the classroom, she noted that it was already rather full. A few students she recognized, and a few she didn't, but they already seemed to have formed cliques. he herself had never really been part of them, instead flirting from group to group, friends with everyone who would allow her to be. Taking her seat in the front row, next to an unfamiliar man, she gave a tentative smile towards her Professor. "Morning, Professor Holmes," she greeted.

Taking out her notebook and writing materials, she dumped them on the desk before turning to the person beside her. "Hi! I'm Brooke. Are you new here?" she asked with a smile. Meeting new people was always fun, because you were literally getting to know how somebody other than yourself thought and felt.

Elspeth entered the Potions classroom with a sigh. She had stayed up late last night reading up on the potion they were making. After getting an Acceptable on her potion last lesson, she wanted to improve her work and get at least an Exceeds Expectations. She didn't like settling for less, but she supposed that the professors here had high expectations. This was, after all, a very prestigious school.

She greeted the professor before taking a seat somewhere in the middle row. She felt a bit awkward, sitting amongst all these groups, but she didn't let it bother her much. Besides, friends would distract her from her studies.

She quickly shook herself from her thoughts, anxiously drumming her fingers on her knees as she waited for the class to start.

Joe considered his slightly apprehension to be perfectly normal. He had a lot on his plate. His parents were constantly asking after his and Brooke's relationship, inviting them both around for tea, and no matter how many times Joe said they didn't have the time to do that, they wouldn't listen. On top of that, he'd managed to land himself a part-time gig in a coffee shop that sat just around the corner from his flat, and he was pressed for time.

Really, though, it was because Joe sucked at potions.

Maybe that was a slight hyperbole. He wasn't bad, per se, he just wasn't great. There had been a few mishaps back at Hogwarts, one of the worst of which having involved a beetle and some poor girl's eyes, but she'd forgiven him, and, depending on your stance, technically it wasn't his fault. Sydney should not have tried to get that close to him in the first place.

Joe swallowed hard as he walked through the door, taking a seat with a curt nod at his professor. Professor Holmes, he thought, trying not to let his chest constrict too much or he knew he'd settle into some kind of panic attack. He drummed his fingertips on his thighs as he waited quietly, occasionally flitting his glance over to Brooke with a smile.

Parker made sure to get up earlier than usual that day. Anything could happen, and though he was certain he wasn't going to end up lost this time, he didn't want to show up late again. Not with Professor Holmes, and especially not after getting his grades back.

He honestly hadn't expected to score so well, though perhaps it was because he had high expectations for himself when it came to potions in particular. Professor Holmes' score notes inspired Parker to want to work harder and prove his full abilities - he expected challenges definitely, and excitedly looked forward to whatever followed.

Walking through the halls and towards the dungeons, Parker looked around at all the others making their ways to class and sighed to himself. It suddenly hit him how lonely he felt. He didn't exactly have a lot of friends back at Hogwarts, but those he did have were all fairly close to each other. While Parker had made a collection of acquaintances from his classes, there was no one he'd gotten that close to yet. At first it didn't really bother him because he was used to keeping to himself and stayed busy enough studying and doing course work - in the past week or so though, he felt it start to bring him down.

His mood had soured by the time he walked into class, but hey, he wasn't late so he supposed that was something to feel good about. He took a random seat near the back, like last time, and with the dungeons being much warmer than outdoors Parker tugged off his extra-thick jumper, his shirt underneath riding up most of the way until he fixed it.

He noticed Professor Holmes had yet to write instructions for them, but Parker rummaged through his bag to take out his quill, notebook, and textbook anyway. With a yawn, he then rested his head in his folded arms, waiting for class to start, wallowing in the bad mood he put himself in.

Ben moved at his own pace through the castle halls. He'd been busy this morning, working on analysis for one of his experiments. Things were time sensitive at this stage, and he needed to be there to catalogue a very specific reaction. By the time he looked up, it was about time for class. Throwing a quick stasis charm over the lab table (aka. the kitchen table), he grabbed his bag and Apparated out of the flat.

Checking his watch, he had a few more minutes to spare, so he didn't bother running. Not that he wanted to chance being late twice in a row to the same class, but he didn't see the point in running. It was wasted energy.

As he entered the class, it appeared he was on time. The room looked more full than last time. Second Lesson pattern, as it was. The first class of the year always seemed to be a crap shoot for attendees.

A quick glance around showed him Conner hadn't arrived yet. His brow furrowed, he chose an empty desk off to the side. He knew his roommate didn't like to draw attention, so he'd chosen to forego his usual choice of front row. Pulling out his text book and a few other things, he sent an acknowledging nod to the professor, who was at the front of the class.

'Shit shit shit' Conner thought as he was running across campus and into the great hall to reach the stairs. He had slept in, and that bastard of a roommate never thought of waking him up. Honestly, he wondered why he decided to have agreed with him. Cursing to himself, she ran dow the stairs and towards the dungeons. Luckily he hadn't run out of breath, but people around him kept him judged him as he slid through. Who cared? The biggest fear was the fact that Professor Holmes would lock him out. He was barely any good, and even then, he didn't want the professor to think less of him.

Pushing the door open, his breath good heavy and immediately plopped himself beside Benjamin and glared. It wasn't as if his roommate even cared. Crossing his arms he tried to control his breath.

It had not been a good start for her day, and she was already running late; hopefully, class had not yet started. Tearing down the hallway with Bella right behind her, she slowed down outside the classroom and entered sheepishly, glad to see that she was not the last to arrive. There were no excuses for being so late - or at least, she considered herself late, because for Lilliana, being on time was always 'early' - and instead, she greeted the Professor with a soft hello.

Taking her seat in front, away from other people, she removed her writing materials and laid them on the table, watching Bella make herself comfortable beside her. She had not been present for the last potion class because of an untimely Ministry meeting, but the work had been given to her nevertheless. Potions was something she felt she was quite good at, because it didn't involved having to interact with people, and unless she suddenly started prophesying, being detailed and concise was a strength of hers.

To put it plainly, James hated potions. It wasn't because he couldn't do them - he could do almost anything he set his mind to - but rather, he found it spectacularly dull. In his eyes, there was nothing exciting about adding a certain amount of crushed .. whatever.. and then string for exactly 3 times. He craved excitement, adventure, uncertainty.

Other classes offered that, especially in his course. He could run around to his hearts content and have to think his way out of situations, constantly having to be on the ball. Unfortunately for him, potions was a mandatory subject that offered none of this. There was nothing remotely interesting about making potions, because there were precise instructions and no room for innovation.

So, quite honestly, James didn't give a crap as he walked into the almost full classroom and took a seat in the back row, nodding at the Professor. I'm bored, he thought at once, beginning to doodle in his notebook as he waited for the lesson to begin. The sooner it ends, the better.

Adriano had not had a good morning. His bag had torn while on his way to potions, spilling not only his books, but loose sheets of paper he had shoved in there after classes. What was worse was that the wind had blown it halfway across the floor, and he spent a good 10 minutes chasing after his items before mending his bag and continuing off to class.

Slipping in, he felt his heart rate increase as he noted the amount of people there. Merlin's beard, he thought, eyes going wide as he automatically avoided looking at anyone. Why couldn't they have split it into two classes? There's too many people here.

Sitting down at the only space that wasn't next to anyone else, he briefly looked up to nod at the Professor, greeting him before quickly altering his gaze lest he made eye contact with someone else. Please don't let anyone site next to me. Merlin, please, he begged mentally, setting his quill and notebook onto the desk.

Seeing that more than enough students piled themselves into his class, he knew it was time to begin. The timer he had set wrung and the doors slammed shut making sure no one else could enter. Smiling, proud of himself, he walked towards his students and sat on the desk itself figuring out that this would definitely be an experiment. Clearing his throat he decided to simply jump right into it.

"Welcome students, I see that many of you managed to make it on time. Good, I was hoping to see that we wouldn't get as many errors this time around when it comes to coming late. Anyway, today I want for us to discus and brew a potion that works successfully in Auror work. As I said before, each week we will have a different subject to cover and today this one is it. Now can anyone guess, different kinds of potions that would be useful. Whether it was in your book or not? I doubt many of you can guess what we will brew today, but I want to see how creative you can be."

He looked clearly at his sister, wanting her to stay completely quiet in this class, and give another person a turn. He really wanted people who hadn't spoke the previous lesson to speak up. To see their opinions and creativity. Leaning back he waited patiently making sure that he wouldn't miss the hint of some glimmer of knowledge.

Having let his mind wander, Christian was pulled out of his own thoughts by a soft voice next to him. Looking over, he was met by a rather alarming shade of red, atop a smiling face. Better than a not-smiling one, he thought. He wasn't usually one to converse with strangers, had never really felt the need, but he wasn't about to be outright rude either.

"Uh, yeah. Just started actually. I'm Christian." Unsure of what to do now, since they were at the front of a ever growing class of students, he simply nodded his head in acknowledgement.

It wasn't long before the class quieted down and the professor began. Taking in the man before them, Christian wasn't really sure what to expect from the class. Since he missed last lesson, general introductions were already passed. He could tell, though, from the man's initial words, that there had been issues last time. He wondered, then, if this professor wasn't a bit of a hardass.

He was honestly a bit taken aback by the question posed to them. Not because it was geared towards his major, but because he actually had ideas for an answer. Christian, while being popular enough when he was at Hogwarts, was never really known for his brains. He wasn't an idiot, he just was never top of the class either. But now, he had a bit more to fight for, he guessed.

Raising his hand, his face showed a bit of uncertainty. "Well, sir, there are different kinds of potions that could be used, depending on what area of the job you're working in." Not wanting to go on and on, like some walking text book, he cut to the chase. "But a good offence one, to take down your opponent, could be Garrotting Gas. If you're going for lethal, that is."

There were other ways, of course: Defense, Interrogation, Infiltration. All very important aspects of the job. This potions just happened to come to mind.

As if her mind had conjured the other girl, Rhian felt a gentle nudge to her shoulder. Looking over at her friend, it was obvious who cared more about appearances. Even when Tess wasn't trying, she looked flawless in whatever she threw together. If Rhian was the kind to worry about those things, she'd be jealous. But honestly, she just got a bit of amusement out of their friendship.

"Yes, I can learn, thank you very much," she smirked at the girl.

Just then, another person sat on her other side. A strange thing, for Rhian, since she'd only ever really hung out with Tess, even at Hogwarts. But looking over, she saw it was just her roommate. "Hey," she greeted. They were friendly enough around the dorm, but didn't have any classes together, save this one.

Mycroft started class then, and she knew better than to talk through the lesson. If Rhian had learned anything from her time as being Tess's best friend, it was that her family was not one to be messed with. She was surprised a bit, her eyebrows raising, at his indended topic of this lesson. Sure, all majors were required to take it. She just...well, she wasn't really sure what surprised her about it.

Listening to a boy in the front take the first guess, Rhian looked around. None of the other students seemed keen on adding to the boys answer, so she tentatively raised her hand.

"Well," Shite. She'd gotten herself into this, now what was she going to say. The first guy that spoke had mentioned offence. So...there was obviously defence, for when they were being attacked. But what else? Thinking as fast as possible, she tried to think of what she would fear from an Auror.

It came to her in a flash. "Veritaserum." The idea of it alone was enough to curl her toes. That someone could slip something into her tea and she'd spill all her secrets...a cold shiver ran down Rhian's spine. It wasn't that she was hiding government secrets, but...well, her secrets were her own. "For interrogation, it would be a useful tool."

Amerix jumped when the timer rang. She hadn't been expecting that. Looks like the professor liked to be very punctual. She made a mental note to always be punctual for his classes. She'd never been tardy and she'd like to keep it that way. Amerix listened closely as the professor started speaking. They were going to concentrate on Auror work and that excited Amerix. She'd have to pay extra attention for this class. Not that she wouldn't pay attention to other classes covering other majors but it couldn't hurt to concentrate on what was important to her major right?

When the professor opened the floor to the classroom, Amerix racked her brains to think of a potion that would be useful to Aurors. So far she had drawn a blank but as two other students began speaking, her mind churned up some ideas which of course kick started a mental debate. One of the potions that came to mind was...in her opinion unconventional. But it could prove useful and the professor did say he wanted to see how creative they could be right? Her only fear was that he would think she wasn't being serious about the class when in actual fact she was.

When the other two students had finished giving their answers she raised her hand and composed herself to give her answer. She didn't like talking out loud in class for fear of giving the wrong answer and humiliating herself, not to mention getting on the wrong side of the professor. But she was here to learn right?

Feeling her heart pounding, she said, "There are a few potions I think would be useful for Aurors. One would be the Invisibility Potion which would help with Aurors wanting to have an advantage in capturing criminals."

She paused a short while debating if she should say the next potion. Just go for it she pushed herself.

"A second potion would be Gregory's Unctuous Unction which makes the one who takes it think that the one who gave it is their best friend which would also be helpful in apprehending criminals," Amerix said. She stopped there and bit her lower lip, hoping that her answers were okay.

There had, of course, been many warnings to Daniel around the site after his early knack of being late had been discovered by his peers. Warnings that if he was going to be late for Professor Holmes, he might as well not bother turning up. To Daniel, that had simply been a challenge to see if he could still get in to the class in his usual late, casual manner.

It would, in all honesty, have been so much easier just to be on time, but Daniel couldn't help himself in that respect.

Instead, he'd gone out of his way to make a very, very good forgery of the Headmaster's signature. The first lesson he hadn't bothered to attend any classes except those of the curse breaking kind. But when the reminder came that he had to attend potions (which he really couldn't get his head around), Daniel had relented to trying it out.

Pushing on the door, the door didn't budge. With a sigh, he pulled out his note, knowing the doors were magical, and held up the note from the Headmaster so carefully scripted and waited. A moment later the door swung open, and the Jameson heir stepped in to the room. "So sorry for being late." Daniel called out to the professor, though his tone did not sound sincere in the slightest. Had he cut across someone as he entered? Most probably, Daniel didn't care.

Moving to a seat beside a boy who seemed to have wanted to sit alone, Daniel dropped in to his seat, making absolutely no effort to be quiet and respectful for the rest of the class. Daniel Jameson had arrived, and the whole world needed to know.
