Rhian pulled on a light jacket and grabbed her messenger bag from her desk chair. Her roommate, Ariel, seemed to be out doing her own thing now, maybe checking out the campus as she'd mentioned on their first meeting. There were only a few days left to do so before the entire castle would be filled with students and professors.

But, until then, there was a bit of quiet around the dorms that Rhian fully intended on taking advantage of. There was a small courtyard on one side of the dorms, where there were some benches and tables that you could sit at. There wasn't really anyone around, but she'd been scoping out a spot with the perfect amount of shade and sun for days now.

The bench she snagged for herself was long enough for her to stretch out on, so she kicked off her shoes and did just that. There were a few benches around hers, but this one was perfect. With her bag tucked under her head, for a pillow, she pulled out a used book on dragons from the east. It wasn't a required reading, but she'd seen it in a sad little bin in the back of the store and couldn't not buy it.

As she read, she absentmindedly started humming. It was a habit of hers that helped her concentrate, even though she couldn't tell afterward what it was she was humming, exactly. Losing herself in the book, she let the day pass her by.

Melody had decided to look around the dormitories a bit, get a feel of the area. She looked around at the benches and tables. The dorms hadn't been this sunny at Hogwarts. Maybe they were usually more open spaced at academies.

Plenty of light for reading, Melody thought and then as if on cue she spotted someone nestled up on a bench with a book, humming something that Melody couldn't recognize although it sounded vaguely familiar. She stood there for a wondering if it was a good book and then she realized that she was staring. Embarrassed Melody sat down on one of the benches and looked around the area. She kicked a rock that was by her thought and it made more noise than she would have expected when it hit one of the tables. At least she hadn't broken anything.

She didn't really want to bother her but after some thinking she decided she might as well walk over to the girl and say hi. So walk over to her she did and she said "hello" although she wasn't sure if the girl had heard her.
