    Masquerade Welcome Ball (Open) Empty
PostSubject: Masquerade Welcome Ball (Open)    Masquerade Welcome Ball (Open) EmptySat Nov 22, 2014 9:56 pm

The beginning of the school year usually became a simple dinner where the students began to get an idea of whose faces they would be looking at for the four years they would be attending. But this day marked a special occasion for the school for multiple reasons. For one thing, it would be nine-hundred-and-fifty-years that the school was founded by the very first headmaster, Merlin. And while the master wizard went to obscurity, it was quoted a multitude of times that the academy was his biggest pride. Secondly, it was the anniversary of the haven being created since the war times. MAE was the only building that was not affected during wartime, instead it's walls being a fortitude against dark times.

Dorian Ashworth was now working towards his first year as Headmaster. The old man before him had run MAE like a factory and he himself would do it the same way, but with luxury and everything being perfect in every way. Before students could even step into the castle, he had made sure everything was clean from top to bottom. No one could say that he wasn't one to take notice of the smallest of details. He took pride in having eyes for everything around him. Walking down the stairway, he pushed the double doors open to oversee just what the maids and house elves did for the Great hall.

Immaculate, was the first thought as he saw the great hall ready with decorations. The new chandeliers were a dark ebony color, highlighting the warm tones of the walls. It spoke history and the tables were circles, as were all the tables of MAE in honor of Merlin and his fabled stories in the muggle world. Stepping around the room he noticed everyone putting things last minute so he would notice everything in the mental picture. Nodding, he snapped his fingers telling them to pay attention.

"People will be coming within an hour, be mindful that when the doors open, music will be playing at this very moment. Everyone be in their proper attire and do not disappoint me, understood?"

Everyone nodded. He figured he was comfortable enough to go change himself and return an hour later to see everything run perfectly. Smiling to himself, he walked off, his pace quick but strong.

    Suit and Mask:

As the opening of the Masquerade Welcome Ball neared, Humphrey finished putting on his suit, bow tie, and masquerade mask. His hair he left alone for the most part, only artfully mussing it up a little with his fingers until he thought it looked alright. He felt a rising nervousness at the thought of having to interact with many people he'd never met before, far from his idea of a good night. If this was the price he had to pay to work with dragons and have an excellent education though, he decided that it could be a lot worse. Looking at himself one last time in the mirror and straightening his bow tie, he took a deep breath and made his way towards the Great Hall of Merlin's Academy.

Walking in, he found himself stunned by the grandeur of the place. Humphrey was certain all the stops had been pulled out because of the ball, but even if it hadn't been decked out he knew it would have still been stunning. The architecture was amazing, and he found it hard to keep one foot in front of the other as he finally walked into the section with the tables and food. It seemed that he was one of the first people here, which suited him just fine. Pouring himself a glass of punch and grabbing a small tray of snacks, the young werewolf sat at an empty table. Before too long he was sure this nice quiet would be shattered, so he enjoyed himself while he still could. When more people came he would simply do his best and struggle through the night as best he could.

    Dress
    Mask
    Shoes
    Necklace

Balls and dressing up had never truly been something she looked forward to, but over the years, an appreciation of formal attire had grown to a point where she enjoyed doing it - as long as it only happened once in a blue moon. It had taken her quite a while to find a suitable dress, but, after searching through what felt like thousands of racks, she found one that made her smile and bought it at once. The size did not really matter to her, because despite it being too large, she simply adjusted her hips to fit, checking herself in the mirror to ensure that she had gotten the proportions right.

The night of the welcome masquerade ball was not at all hectic for her, although she saw some of the other girls running around and heard them frantically shouting to one another in adjacent dorms for hair-dryers and make up tools. Brooke herself only used a light brush of power, not much liking the feeling of any other substance on her face. Slipping into the dress, she checked herself in the mirror before smiling, hand raising to gently finger the necklace that sat just above her chest, a present from Joe that had quickly become her prized possession. It seemed there was no end to the way he spoilt her, despite her protests. Turning to leave, she secured on the mask, tying it firmly around the back of her head, and pulled on the heels, closing and locking the door behind her.

Stepping into the hall, arm hooked into that of her boyfriend's, she let out a tiny gasp, looking around at the sheer beauty of the place and suddenly feeling very, very inadequate. Subconsciously patting down her dress, she felt Joe give her arm a tiny squeeze and sent him a smile. How was it he always knew what to do, she never figured out, but it was one of the many reasons she loved him. Taking a deep breath and entering, she and Joe stuck together for the time being, but after a few minutes, separated to go and mingle, agreeing to meet back at a later time.

Moving towards the dining area, Brooke got herself a drink and a plate of a few different types of food, and looked over at the tables. Spotting a male in a black mask nearby, she approached him and smiled. "May I join you?" she asked, wondering if she knew him; he looked vaguely familiar, but the mask was blocking too much detail for her to be sure.

    "May I join you?"

Enjoying the food he had gathered, Humphrey hadn't even realized someone was walking over to him until he heard a vaguely familiar voice. Looking up, he tried to look past the mask and thought he recognized that girl from the bookshop, the one who'd bumped into him by accident. "Go right ahead, I don't mind. You're the girl I met at the bookshop, right?" he asked, wanting to confirm it. It looked like the same girl, but it was hard to know for certain when most of her face was covered by a mask. To be honest he was a little surprised that the first person to talk to him was someone he thought he recognized. He had expected not to know anybody, but this was a little better.

Taking another bite from the treacle tart he was working on, he enjoyed watching more people enter the hall. Everyone was dressed up and looking at their best, and the great hall itself was also quite a sight to see. The place was gradually starting to fill up, making him a little more anxious in the process. Luckily for him though, nobody else had decided to join them at their table. "Didn't expect to see you here, are you starting in year one as well?" he asked, curious. Perhaps they would end up having a class or two together when term started. Maybe they could even become...friends, something he'd avoided making in the past. This year he was going to make more of an effort to be, frightening as the prospect was...sociable.

    Ball get up:

Airen was nervous. He had planned on staying in his dorm tonight and listening to his music or maybe continue searching for a place to keep up his hobbies. His parents had different plans. They asked that he at least mingle with his fellow students for a little while at least. Two hours at most. Airen was reluctant, but he ultimately agreed with them. So, dressing up as he was taught to do for a ball, Airen tied on his mask and made sure the glove on his right hand wouldn't come loose. He exited his dorm and made his way down into the Great Hall.

Upon arriving, Airen noticed the people who were already present. A few he had seen around Hogwarts, mainly those his age, but most of the adults he didn't know. Still more than a bit self conscious, Airen tightened his mask and pulled on his glove, not wanting to lose the anonymous feeling and safety. Sure he could easily be fun and jovial to be around, but that was something that he decided and no one else. Looking around, Airen found an empty table easily enough and mapped a quick route to it. He swiped a small glass of water from the food table and sat down, finally having a safe place to stay. Sure, his parents would urge him to mingle with a couple of his Hogwarts classmates, and he would. He just needed to first calm his nervously beating heart and acclimate to the place. That wouldn't take too long either, knowing him.

For what can man do to me? His personal mantra rang through his head and Airen let it slowly fill him with the confidence he would need to have a good time tonight.

    Ariel's Outfit

Balls were not, under any circumstances, Ariel's friend. But when they did happen, she didn't refuse to go either. And she often went all out with her dress and so on. Also she liked the balls much better when the chances of being recognized were slim. Not to mention that she didn't have the unfortunate aura of half a veela. She could go into a room and not be noticed instantly. Which would be really nice. Not to mention that she also simply turned her hair dark brown, so it would be even harder for her fellow students to recognize her. She thoroughly enjoyed not being judged on first appearance.

That said, she was definitely going down in the book as one of the rich ones. Not that it was true. Charms and transfiguration was everything Ariel truly needed to make the dress look the way it did. She loved long and heavy dresses, despite not liking balls. It wasn't the outfit that put her off, it was all the music and grandeur gestures and beautiful places. Sure she liked them, but it was all a bit up there to her. Not the dresses though. She loved wearing dresses.

As she left her common room, she was wondering how long she would last with the heels she had gotten. She did like high heels, but only for an hour. So this was going to get interesting. Perhaps it would be a lot of sitting down. She hoped so; she did not wanna dance. That really wasn't something she was good at...

Despite not being fond of balls and all the grandeur, she could not help a shocked face (hidden under her mask) from spreading as she saw the hall. The academy had been beautiful from the very beginning, but this was insane. She hadn't noticed how large the stairs were until then, she hadn't noticed how cosy the room was, and she certainly hadn't noticed how the floor seemed to shine. She had to grin; maybe this wouldn't be quite as bad as she had imagined.

She noticed the three other people in the room. She wondered who she should go over to. One of them was a redhead, like the girl she'd met in the forest, but it was neigh impossible to tell from this distance if it was even her. And Ariel would like to meet people she just didn't know. A guy sitting alone by a table was definitely her cue, but at the same time, she didn't really want to disturb. Then she figured that if he'd bothered to even come here, he must be prepared for socializing. So she walked over, trying to look confident, even in her heels. "Mind if I sit?" she asked softly.

Airen felt a little more confident now. He allowed a small smile to peek through his face. He briefly wondered what he even had to worry about in coming to this thing. The mask gave people an anonymous shield that allowed them to be confident and not worry about people remembering their mistakes. He looked up at a voice softly asking to sit with him. His smile grew wider.

"Be my guest," he replied, gesturing to the empty chairs. Airen's heart began beating nervously again, but it wasn't as bad, so he chose to ignore it. He wanted so desperately to make friends, and would do his best to be a good friend to people.

"Some party, huh?" he asked the girl, wanting to get a conversation going. He hoped he wouldn't botch this up.

    Teagan's Dress
    Teagan's Mask

Teagan hadn't really thought this through. Sure, she knew what the beginning of each new school year brought for Merlin's Academy: the Welcome Ball. But in accepting the recently vacated position just a month ago, it was the farthest thing from her mind. She'd still had to tie up loose ends with some of her most recent jobs, passing along some of the more involved and lengthy assignments to those she trusted. It wasn't until two days ago that she even remembered that the ball was today. In a hurry, she'd Aparated to a little town in France that she'd visited a year ago. The owner had been having troubles with a nasty piece of clothing that turned the wearer's skin bright orange after ten minutes. The woman was more than happy to help her find a suitable dress for the event.

But even now, as she dressed in her Academy appointed rooms, the witch had to wonder what the night would hold, now that she was on the other side of things. She hadn't attended the last few, since her own graduation, simply because she hadn't felt the need to reconnect with her fellow alumni. Now though, she wondered if it wouldn't have been a good thing. Teaching wasn't what she'd planned to do, in the long run, but now that she was in it, Teagan was anxious to see what would come of it.

Sliding her mask into place, she took one last look in the mirror. She'd left her hair long, spelling it into large curls that hung down her back. The mask was a mix of royal blue and white, detailed, but not over the top. Her dress, while an eye-catching color, was simple in it's form. Still, it was more than she was used to as of late.

The walk down to the entrance hall was slow going, even though she'd stuck with a shorter heel, for stability. When she reached the large room, she couldn't hide her smile at the decor. Dorian had really went all out this year, what with the anniversary, and everything looked splendid. Looking around the room, she saw masked individuals, mingling here and there as the festivities took off. The music was light and enjoyable, welcoming. Making her way around the room slowly, taking in all the details, she grabbed a champagne flute and drifted towards a window, looking out onto the grounds.

This was one of the things she'd missed about this castle, the view. While she'd enjoyed Hogwarts very much, there was something about these stone walls that felt more like home to her.

Ariel smiled at the guy and sat down. "Nice gloves," she said, as she saw them when he gestured to the chairs. She liked his outfit. It was so ... ball-y. Once again, she didn't like balls, but that wasn't because of the outfits, it was because of the dancing and formality and too many people. She looked around again. A new person walked into the room, in a nice, long dress. She liked it. But she liked even more that there were still pretty few people here. She was a bit stressed when it came to the rest of the night. She would really have to learn to deal with crowds.

She nodded in complete agreement with the guy. "Definitely. It's really beautiful," she said, "But a bit too much in my opinion. Then again, who am I to talk?" she asked, looking down at her own dress. It was beautiful, yes, and she absolutely loved it, but it was more than too much. Which was the only reason she could even be bothered to wear it. If it had only been too much, it would've been too much. But if it was more than too much, it was more than only too much. Girl logic. She wasn't going to try to explain that to this guy.

"What's your major?" she asked curiously, not noticing that she skipped the part about names. She always tended to leave personal details out, and just ask questions that actually had her curious. She hoped he didn't consider this rude. And if he did, too bad, right? Or at least, he could just ask. Ariel wasn't going to deny him her name!

Airen glanced down at his gloved right hand. He knew that no one knew of his little condition, and that gave him some comfort. He was glad he opted to wear both of them, only one gloved hand would raise suspicion. "Thanks," he said. "Beautiful dress," Airen added, returning the compliment.

He looked back out on the dance floor, kind of wishing this were a muggle party, but he wasn't one to complain too much. He listened as the girl answered him and gave her own opinion. "It is beautiful," Airen replied, nodding a bit in a agreement. He chuckled at her stating that it was a bit too much, which he himself kind of agreed with. "Hey, everyone's entitled to their opinions. But you're right. This party could afford to loosen up a bit," he finished, hoping not to sound too...well, critical.

"Auror In-Training, at your service," Airen said, getting up and mock-bowing before sitting back down, trying to be a little funny. He wasn't very good at it, but he still liked to make people smile. "What about you?" he asked, politely and curiously.

PostSubject: Re: Masquerade Welcome Ball (Open)    Masquerade Welcome Ball (Open) EmptyTue Nov 25, 2014 10:28 am

Ariel grinned at him. "Thank you," she said happily, "It's a bitch to wear though." She once again looked at the dress, and the things sticking up the side. Maybe she should've removed them? They were itchy. But she internally shrugged and looked back at him, realising she'd just used the word 'bitch'. Sure, it wasn't the worst word in the world's vocabulary, but people had different reactions to curse words. Ariel didn't care at all, but it wasn't cool to use curse words when you didn't know the people you were talking to. Some actually thought it was really offensive. Hopefully, this guy wasn't one of them. What a first impression... However: Masks!

As his gaze turned to the dance floor, Ariel worried for half a second that he might want to dance. She hoped not. Okay, so if he did ask -Merlin forbid- she wouldn't say no. That would be a bit rude. But her fear for that half-second vanished quickly as he turned back and agreed with her. She smiled relieved. Maybe he didn't like to dance either! Or maybe he did, he just didn't want to dance with Ariel. And then, for a quarter of a second, Ariel couldn't decide whether to be insulted or relieved. But she quickly laughed internally at her own thought; sometimes she wondered what people would think of her if they ever used legilimens on her. Hopefully, she'd never get to find out.

Ariel nodded. "I completely agree," she said happily, not at all in a negative voice, "But it might, when more people show up. We never know right?" She decided to remain positive. "However, it's nice to just have an excuse to get to know people, right? I guess it's a good thing that people have this opportunity since we're all just trying to settle in," she said with a smile.

She looked on as he rose up and she was once again terrified that he'd ask her to dance. But that too vanished quickly as he sat back down again, and Ariel had to laugh. She then rose herself and did the same bow. "Potioneer In-Training, at yours," she said joyfully as she sat back down again. She liked this guy; he was funny.

Airen chuckled as the girl commented on her dress. While he was Christian by belief, he knew plenty of Christians who would curse, so he was never bothered when a person let out a curse here or there. "I'll take your word for it," he commented with humored smirk. "Seems like more of a costume than anything else," Airen added, gesturing to the added decorations adorning her shoulders. He never understood why some people chose to wear some of the things they wore, but he wasn't one to point that out.

Airen had noticed that the girl kept on glancing back at the dance floor nervously. At least, he thought it was nervousness. He couldn't tell for sure because of the mask, but he at least could be sure that dancing was a subject that they'd only talk about if it came up. When she talked about getting to know people, he nodded his head in agreement. That was his main reason for being here anyway.

"We never know," Airen echoed her statement in full agreement. "It's nice, for sure. We get to meet people, mess up, and then re-meet them and pretend like nothing embarrassing ever happened. I personally like the mystery of a masquerade," he added, wiggling his fingers around when he said 'mystery'.

Again, Airen noticed her nervousness when he stood to do the mock bow. He was fairly certain that this girl, whoever she was, was not a fan of ballroom dancing for one reason or another. His sapphire eyes lit up when she laughed at his attempt at humor. He was just glad that she wasn't weirded out by that small antic. He had to chuckle himself when she returned his gesture. "Oh, Potioneer," he said, intrigued. "So why potions?" Airen asked, wanting to keep conversation.

    Mask
    Codey Ellingston

News of a welcoming ball was nothing that Codey wasn't prepared for, but at the Masquerade part, a smirk played on his lips. Now that was something new, something he could play with and use to his advantage; it was perfect to establish his role as the King of parties. Sending out his order for a custom-made jet black mask that sat comfortably over his eyes and nose without any annoying plastic rubbing against his skin, he went to his favourite shop to get his suit made. Deciding on a light grey material, the order was completed within the week.

On the day of the ball, he went to the tailors to have everything adjusted, toying with the idea of a fedora, but eventually leaving it behind at the shop to be collected another time. With a tie to match his mask, he secured it with a neat knot behind his head and, making sure his shoes had been polished by his house elf, apparated straight into the entrance of the University; he didn't want to ruin anything with a walk, and besides, he saw no point in having magic if you didn't use it whenever possible.

Stepping into the main hall, he glanced around, his smirk growing even more. The place had been decorated well - although he knew he could have done a better job - and it was almost up to the standards he set for his own parties. Still, a Masquerade was never one he had done before, and as he moved his way further in, he made a mental note to host one at a future date. Stopping to get a drink, he stood at one side and slowly sipped his punch, looking around and taking in the different people.

Smiling at the boy, she lowered herself onto a seat, making sure that her dress didn't get caught on anything - which had happened during family dinners before, but thankfully never in the presence of anyone else. In the back of her mind, she tried to figure out where he had heard his voice before, but it wasn't till his question that it finally clicked, and she nodded. "I am! Humphrey, wasn't it?" she asked, remembering his name only because it was so unique.

A few moments of silence passed as Brooke started to eat, looking around to see who else was entering and wondering if she knew any of them from Hogwarts. At the question from the wizard next to her, she turned to give him her full attention. "I am! Auror in training come term start, how about you?" she asked, realizing for the first time that they hadn't asked any of this when they first met.

That was one of her favourite things about meeting people she had things in common with - she could have had a long conversation with them and still have many things to find out upon another meeting. In this case, they had not conversed about school or University, and this was the first time she had even considered the fact that he might have been a student. Sipping her drink, she leaned back in her chair and waited for him to answer.

Tess took a deep breath before walking into the ball. Balls weren't something out of place, in fact it was an everyday thing, but this was the first time she was actually showing what she'd done to herself since she was last seen in public. Rhian hadn't even seen her hair and if she hadn't, then no one else would really have seen it. Except Mycroft. He was furious with her, calling her stupid for ruining herself over something as 'simple as a separation'. She hadn't even told him why she'd done it, he just assumed which made her angry realizing how typical he thought her to be. And she had. Still, he played around with her hair, teasing her how his hair was practically longer than hers now, making her smile for the first time in a while.

Running her fingers through her hair, she frowned seeing how short it was. It was new for her, and something that forced her to want to figure out exactly who she could be now that she'd lost part of her identity. It seemed vain perhaps, that she relied so heavy on her hair, but it had been something that was her. At least she had someone's support through her stupid choice. And they'd both agreed to come separately. After all he'd thrown in her face that "You said you didn't want to be associated with me. "

So for the ball, she had chosen something simple; preventing herself from choosing a bright color that would bring attention to herself. Black lace, straight against her body, nothing too flashy, except for small crystals that laid over the fabric of the top. The only tight part was around her hips, softly before flaring out, and she was as satisfied as she could be. She'd chosen a mask that was clear, simply because she figured there wouldn't be a lot of women with her hair, and it was obvious. Tying it back she made sure it covered it perfectly. The only thing that brought her some femininity was her red lipstick.

Gliding through the entrance, she looked around wondering if Rhian was already there. That was not the case, it seemed as people already began to chat around, feeling anxious already, she gripped her purse tightly tapping her heel lightly against the cherry wood floor.

    Rhian's Dress
    Rhian's Mask

Biting her bottom lip in nervousness, Rhian was very glad Tess had forced her to learn a charm that would prevent her makeup from coming off until she lifted the charm. It wasn't something she usually had reason to use, since her makeup was usually minimal at best.

But it wasn't the makeup that was making her uneasy. It was the dress. She'd went shopping with Tess a few weeks ago, and had seen it on a clearance rack. At the time, she didn't have the money for it. But...it was calling to her in a way that nothing like that ever had before. Rhian wasn't a girl for pretty things, or to spend money frivolously. So, she'd pretended she didn't want it, because she knew Tess. The other girl would have bought it for her, and even though Rhian was used to it in small instances, something like that was just too much. After a few weeks at the pub, picking up shifts left and right, she finally had enough for it. And when she'd returned, there was a lovely mask to match.

The fact that she'd worked hard for these items was the only confidence she had. Still, she knew Tess would never let her hear the end of it if she didn't get her butt downstairs. Slipping on her simple silver heels, she checked once more in the mirror that all her hair was staying up. The updo was a bit odd as well, but an easy enough spell. With everything all set, her mask set firmly in place, she moved out of the dorm and towards the Great Hall.

She'd been in the hall a few times since coming to the Academy, but everything she'd seen paled in comparison to the decor within now. The lights were colored a warm, welcoming off white, the tables changed out for smaller groups and paired with comfortable chairs. Her heart was racing at the sight of strangers. Her fingers moved up to her mask, making sure it was in place before she stepped into the room.

Looking around she didn't see Tess at first. It wasn't until she looked around the sides of the entrance way, seeing a girl in a dress she knew Tess had tried on. But...her hair! Rhian gasped audibly as she realized that it really was her friend. Moving over to the brunette, she moved her hands up into the other girl's hair, trying to not mess it up in her curiosity.

"When did you do this!? I only just saw you a few days ago." Worry shot through her, but she couldn't hide her enjoyment at the boldness of the move. Her lips curved up into a smirk, her eyes twinkling. "Has your family seen it?"

    Suit

Balls were never a thing he enjoyed, from a young age, he was firmly set on trying to avoid them as best he could. Thankfully since his sister was born, he took comfort in knowing that a woman was preferred over anything else at a ball, especially since he showed little interest in anything. At least he had dozens of suits to choose from and it had taken him very little time to actually choose what to wear, much to his sister's annoyance. He took amusement in that. A simple black mask and a suit was perfect for the event.
They always tended to bicker, more recently with her stupid choice of cutting her hair. She looked drastically different, for one thing older than she actually was. It made him uncomfortable, that much was clear. Still, as he entered the ballroom and saw her looking nervous, he kissed her cheek and rubbed the back of her neck amused.

"Hello brother" only to earn a swift hit in the stomach. Wincing slightly he took her in and noticed she looked like a lady, despite the atrocious hair choice. He almost missed the way she looked so doe-eyed with her long hair, now she looked unsure and it made him uncomfortable.

"Don't be a prick, I told you we don't know each other" she hissed his way.

At least he'd helped her calm down, as a small smirk on her face appeared. Backing away, he noticed Rhian coming down the stairs; the young woman  definitely cleaned up nicely. Kissing her sister's cheek quickly, he winked and walked away already knowing that she wouldn't want him around. Something about being too old to hang around her. Teenagers. His eyes studied the room, putting his suit in order and found nothing particularly entertaining. That is, until a royal blue color caught his eye; it was uncanny to the color that matched the family crest and he walked forward. Firstly grabbing the champagne fluke, next considered whether or not to be social.

"It's weird being on this side isn't it?" he drawled out, it was obvious that the woman in royal blue was older than the teens roaming around.

Tess jumped up as she felt someone kissed her cheek, nearly hexing them that is until she realized it was the prick of her brother. Mycroft wasn't demonstrative in public, she knew that he was doing it to bother her, which made her madder at his actions. There was never an action that wasn't completely thought through by him. Turning around in surprise, the touch of her neck was enough for her to know who it was.

    "Hello brother" he drawled

Tess immedaitely grew annoyed and before he could continue, she swiftly knocking the wind out of him. As he winced earning a real smile from her, the glint in her eyes returning at the noise. Honestly, despite the age difference, they were most definitely immature when together.

"Don't be a prick, I told you we don't know each other"

And she meant it; she didn't want people to be thinking she earned her spot at the academy for her name. She hadn't; she'd worked hard to get in, and so in return she'd made him promise he wouldn't outwardly show he knew her. Yet without bothering to hide his mischief he kissed her cheek once more and walked off to do his own thing, and for that she was thankful.

It was only moments that he had left, she felt another hand on her and flinched. Having someone near her always made her tense, even more so when it involved touching. And especially at the moment it was her hair. Once with Mycroft was enough, but this happening again? Turning around with a clear frown on her face, she was surprise to see Rhian looking wonderful. The mask had been described to her before, and the frown slowly began to form to a smile. The smile only reserved for her best friend.

"When did you do this!? I only just saw you a few days ago."

Shrugging, she ran her fingers self-consciously on the flick of her hair and sighed. "It was both a mistake and a blessing. I-I wanted a change, from...everything" she said "I'll tell you in private" promising her knowing she would be willing to understand.

    "Has your family seen it?"

A small smirk appeared on her face at her friend's question. Turning over she pointed towards Mycroft casually. "He's furious at the change" she said laughing softly, "everyone that knew me is kind of shocked, and I absolutely love it, despite everything"

    Mask
    Janique

It was amazing how easy it was to get a discount on the dress Jani had set her sights on - it had originally been rather pricey, but a little wink here and a little flirting there, and suddenly the cost dropped by almost 20%. Leaving rather satisfied, she went back to model the dress for Callum, not mentioning the price, or the discount, for that matter. Some-things, she knew, were never meant to be shared. Even more fascinating was the sheer amount of masks available - hundreds upon hundreds of different types could be found, both in the muggle world and her own world.

Deciding on a magical one - that required no straps to attach to the face, for she feared discomfort, - she went to a antique shop not far from her new place in England. Silver, to match her dress, and handmade using a severing charm out of thin metal with tiny jewels in strategic locations, she fell in love. Gladly exchanging one of her 'family heirlooms' (which her mother had apparently left for her; what the woman was thinking, Janique never knew) for the piece, she didn't even need to try it on to know it was the perfect mask. With the way it was cut, it did not hide her face but rather, acted like a decorative sheet, and, thanks to a cushioning charm, felt like quite literally nothing.

Placing it against her face and checking the mirror to adjust it, she slipped on her shoes and headed out, apparating over to the Uni with Callum. Entering the place, arm in arm with her boyfriend, she did not react to the sheer beauty of the main hall, instead smiling only slightly to herself. Moving away from Callum as he went to greet old friends from his Hogwarts days, she walked over to where the food was, gently brushing her hair away from her face. University would be an interesting place to hold a game - for, despite the new atmosphere and the fact that she was soon to be a dragon trainer in training, she still enjoyed doing what she did best. Scanning the crowd to see if there was anyone that could offer an interesting game, she poured herself a cup of punch and sat at an empty table.

Sipping at her champagne, Teagan's lips pursed. She could drink the stuff, but it wasn't her favorite. The bitterness never seemed worth the small intoxication it gave. She'd much prefer the harder stuff, or something that at least tasted good. But, she'd just have to deal with it, as there didn't seem to be anything else served in the way of alcohol. Pitty, since she figured she'd need it soon enough.

Honestly, it wasn't that Teagan hated people. As a rule, she rather liked people. They could be entertaining, worth a laugh, and usually a bevy of information that they never knew they had. Most of the time, though, they'd wear out their entertainment value, or say something incredibly stupid. That's when hard liquor became a great investment. But this was an event for networking, and making connections. She wasn't surprised at all that Dorian wanted to keep it professional and free of other influences.

Just as she was about to head to the food table, having taken her look of the grounds, drifting down memory lane, she heard a man's voice. She'd expected that someone would eventually talk to her, but this was rather early. Turning around, she came face to face with what appeared to be a rather handsome face. At least, what she could see around the mask. His eyes were a startling blue, and his posture showed grace yet complete control. Obviously a professor, she thought. Students knew next to little about themselves, let alone how to act in these situations.

"Just a little," she smirked lightly. So, not only was he a professor, but also an alumni. Interesting. Teagan wondered if they'd known each other years ago. He didn't appear to be too out of her age range. The idea that it could be a stranger or an old acquaintance sent a thrill through her veins. This was the fun part about masque balls.

"And what, may I ask, is your specialty, Mr. Black." Her eyes twinkled with humor as she took another sip of her drink.

Melody entered the ballroom carefully, not because she wanted to draw attention but because she still wasn't used to wearing heels. The heels weren't very high but it still took some getting used to. At least she didn't look too short.
Her mask was a black one and the only make up she wore was some dark red lipstick. She didn't usually wear much make up and since her eyes and nose were well hidden under the mask she hadn't felt the need to put on any mascara or powder her nose.
Melody had magically grew her hair out to shoulder length for the ball but was going to cut it back to its usual length later. Then there was her gown, a black ball gown that she had added some light blue swirls to, if someone looked closely they me might notice that the smallest swirls moved as the lights hit them. The gown covered her feet hiding the heels and she wondered if she could have gotten away with wearing sneakers underneath it.
Her eyes scanned the room. There weren't too many people yet and she couldn't tell if their was anyone she knew. Not that she knew that many people or that she would necessarily recognize someone as many years had passed since Hogwarts.
Melody took in a deep breath and walked over to the food table. She piled as much stuff as she could onto her plate and took a glass of wine. She rarely ever drank but maybe it would steady her nerves. Melody sat down at an empty table and glanced towards the hall entrance as if she was looking for someone. She fiddled with the gold chain around her neck.

Humphrey gave the girl a nod when she asked to make sure she got the right name. "And you're...Brooke?" he asked, hoping he'd remembered rightly. It was easy to forget a name if you'd only met someone once, but he thought he'd gotten it right this time. To be honest he was kind of glad she was there, so that way he at least sort of knew somebody. He took a long sip from his punch cup, enjoying the refreshing taste. More and more people were coming into the room, and he knew that before too long it would be near full up.

Auror was definitely a tough job field to go into, the girl must have a tough side to her. If he hadn't wanted to do Dragon-Training, his second choice probably would have been Cursebreaker. "I'm a first year as well, studying to be a Dragon-Trainer. Always been good with animals, and dragons are so...majestic. Magnificent creatures, am looking forward to working with them." Humphrey told her with a smile. The young wizard hoped that he would get along with the dragons as he had with most magical creatures, but he wouldn't find out for a little while yet. Already he was starting to get excited for it though.

Munching on the snacks he'd piled on his plate, he enjoyed the company of the girl. They still had a lot to talk about with each other, clearly. Though they had talked a little bit at the bookshop, there were many subjects that they hadn't mentioned yet. "So what do you think of the Great Hall? Pretty amazing how they decked everything out, don't you think?"

    Michelle's outfit

Michelle really haven't never been fan of balls or then even masguerade ones. She doesn't like to wear long dresses like most girls do. She likes shorter ones more and most balls doesn't suit with them she have heard. But since it was her first year as professor in Merlin's Academy then it would be good idea to attend so she decided to come here this ball for awhile at least.

Before she entered into the Great Hall she needed to find a dress and mask for herself. Okay actually she had bought them a day before. She really had very hard time to find prefect ones for her. She did even her make up and hair herself. She didn't trust anyone else in it. When she was dressed fully and even had put on some jewelleries she was ready. She checked herself from mirror and smiled. After that she walked out of her room towards the great hall.

When she entered there then she looked around and wondered what she should do now. Since she barely knew anyone here at all. To be honest it have been many years since she was here. She did graduate here few years ago. She did study healing back then and now she will teach it. She smiled and just looked around. She had really no idea what to do here now for sure.

Melody looked at the woman who entered the room. She assumed that everyone would be going in long ball gowns but somehow that woman's dress still fit the occasion. She supposed it didn't really matter, balls weren't as big of a deal as they used to be anyway.
Perhaps she should go over and tell her that she liked her outfit. This ball was held to socialize after all. Melody took a sip of her drink as she mulled it over. The bitter taste reminded her why she didn't drink. Deciding she might as well Melody went over to her, careful not to trip on her own heels and said "I love your dress."

Michelle looked around and wondered what to do but then one younger woman came to her. She told that she liked her dress. "Thanks. I like yours too," she said back with a smile. It was good that someone came to talk with her now. She saw that mostly people had longer dresses. She didn't like them for some reason. "I'm Michelle Hastings," she introduced herself there now. She just decided to make some friends in herr. No matter if it's student or her fellow professor. Being always alone and doing everything her own isn't fun at all. So here she was at ball and talking probably with a student. She was younger than her for sure, she coulf tell it by looking at her.
